THE ARTS FACET AWARDED GIFT CARDS TO POSTER ART WINNERS OF THE FINE ARTS STUDIO AND LINKS NATIONAL POSTER CONTEST. WE ALSO PARTNERED WITH COALITION FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE PERFORMING ARTS (CAAPA) TO PROVIDE THE MASTER CLASS SERIES SESSION FOR MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY HOSTED BY ANGELA RENEE SIMPSON AND FEATURING MUSIC MASTER ROBERT SIMS. SUPPORTED THE CAAPA MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WHICH AWARDED GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS 1ST, 2ND, 3RD PLACE SCHOLARSHIPS AND RECOGNIZES THE ACHIEVEMENTS AND TALENTS OF ASPIRING BLACK, CLASSICAL, MUSICIANS. IN ADDITION, THE ARTS COMMITTEE SUPPORTED THE VIRTUAL CONCERT AS A PART OF THE CAAPA "GENERATIONS: MUSIC AND THE BLACK FAMILY", BASED ON THE ASALH (ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN LIFE AND HISTORY) NATIONAL THEME FEATURING DENYCE GRAVES, NARRATOR/MEZZO SOPRANO; SHANA OSHIRO, CHANTEL BRAZIEL TO HELP PROMOTE THE RESTORATION OF THE NATIONAL NEGRO OPERA HOUSE.
THE SERVICES TO YOUTH AND THE ARTS FACETS VIRTUALLY DELIVERED "EMPOWERING YOUTH VOICES" TO STUDENTS AT DREW FREEMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL BEGINNING APRIL 14 THROUGH MAY 12, 2021. STUDENTS PRODUCED A 20-MINUTE TV SEGMENT BASED UPON THE ISSUE OF SOCIAL MEDIA. THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THREE 30-MINUTE, FACILITATED DISCUSSIONS WITH SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS PROVIDED BY ONYX THERAPY GROUP. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY TWO 1-HOUR SESSIONS OF TV PRODUCTION UNDER THE DIRECTION OF OUR CHAPTER AND THE STUDENTS OF BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY'S SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS. THERE WAS ALSO A DONATION TO THE CAPITAL AREA FOOD BANK.
THE LINKS, INCORPORATED ESTABLISHED THE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES FACET IN RESPONSE TO THE CHRONIC DISPARITIES THAT PERSIST. THIS YEAR, THE PRINCE GEORGE'S (MD) COUNTY VIRTUALLY HOSTED A GREEN TABLE TALK DISCUSSION, "A HEART HEALTHY EVENT - A FOCUS ON THE ALZHEIMER AND DEMENTIA COMMUNITY". IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MARYLAND, OUR MISSION IS TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY, PROMOTE EDUCATION AND AWARENESS AROUND TOPICS THAT ENHANCE THE LIVES OF ITS RESIDENTS. THERE WERE DISCUSSIONS SURROUNDING THE DISEASE AND ITS IMPACT ON THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY WHICH ARE BOTH TIMELY AND SENSITIVE. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO STRENGTHEN ONES KNOWLEDGE AND PREPARE THEM WITH KEY INFORMATION ON THE IMPACT AND EFFECTS OF THIS DISEASE. WE WERE JOINED BY SPECIAL GUEST, CHEF ATOYE, WHO PROVIDED A VIRTUAL DEMONSTRATION ON HOW TO PREPARE HEALTHY MEALS. THERE WAS ALSO A DONATION TO THE CAPITAL AREA FOOD BANK.
