PURPOSE IS TO CREATE AND SUPPORT EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES IN THE HUMANITIES THAT INSPIRE ALL MARYLANDERS TO EMBRACE LIFELONG LEARNING, EXCHANGE IDEAS OPENLY, AND ENRICH THEIR COMMUNITIES. TO DO THIS IT DEVELOPS AND MANAGES SUCH HUMANITIES BASED PROGRAMS AS MARYLAND HISTORY DAY, ONE MARYLAND ONE BOOK AND MUSEUM ON MAIN STREET, AND IT ALSO PROVIDES GRANTS TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.

GRANTS - PROVIDED 26 PROJECT GRANTS TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO CONDUCT HUMANITIES-FOCUSED PROGRAMS AS WELL AS AN ADDITIONAL 91 COVID-RELIEF GRANTS AS PART OF THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT.


HISTORY - PROVIDED PUBLIC PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT MARYLAND TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF LOCAL AND NATIONAL HISTORICAL EVENTS AND IMPROVE RESEARCH AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS. PROGRAMS INCLUDED MARYLAND HISTORY DAY SERVING 19,124 STUDENTS AND 432 TEACHERS FROM 187 SCHOOLS; MUSEUM ON MAIN STREET'S "VOICES & VOTES: DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA" TRAVELING EXHIBITION AND LOCAL COMPANION EXHIBITS VIEWED BY 18,210 PEOPLE; AND 36,583 STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS ACCESSED ONLINE HISTORY INQUIRY KITS THAT TEACH HOW TO IDENTIFY AND INTERPRET PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES.


INTER-DISCIPLINARY - PROVIDED PUBLIC PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT MARYLAND IN VARIOUS OTHER HUMANITIES DISCIPLINES, INCLUDING VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING, DIGITAL PROGRAMMING, AND COMMUNICATIONS ACTIVITIES.


LITERARY - PROVIDED PUBLIC PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT MARYLAND TO ENCOURAGE READING, DISCUSSION, AND LITERACY, INCLUDING: ONE MARYLAND ONE BOOK (10,287 PARTICIPANTS); VETERANS BOOK GROUPS (184 PARTICIPANTS), AND VARIOUS BOOK FESTIVALS (GAITHERSBURG, NATIONAL).
