THE PURPOSE OF PRAIRIE INDEPENDENT LIVING RESOURCE CENTER (PILR) IS TO ACHIEVE THE FULL INCLUSION AND ACCEPTANCE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY.

PILR ASSISTS THOSE WITH DISABILITIES TO LIVE AND WORK INDEPENDENTLY BY ASSISTING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO MOVE OUT OF NURSING FACILITIES AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS INTO HIS OR HER OWN HOME. THEY ALSO ASSIST JOB SEEKERS WITH DISABILITIES TO ACHIEVE THEIR VOCATIONAL GOALS. THIS IS A COOPERATIVE EFFORT BETWEEN THE JOB SEEKER, HIS/HER VOCATIONAL REHAB COUNSELOR AND PILR'S EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE TEACHING INTERVIEWING SKILLS, RESUME WRITING AND JOB SEARCH SKILLS, AND OBTAINING, ENTERING AND MAINTAINING EMPLOYMENT. OTHER EMPLOYMENT SERVICES INCLUDE COMMUNITY BASED WORK ASSESSMENTS AND COMPUTER TRAINING.
