ASSIST ELDERLY AND LOW-INCOME PERSONS.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

HEAD STARTHEAD START PROMOTES THE SCHOOL READINESS OF LOW-INCOME PRESCHOOL CHILDREN (AGES 3 TO 5), INCLUDING CHILDREN OF FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED INDIAN TRIBES, ALASKA NATIVES, AND MIGRATORY SEASONAL AND FARM WORKERS, AND INFANTS AND TODDLERS (BIRTH THROUGH AGE 3) BY ENHANCING THEIR COGNITIVE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT SUPPORT THEIR GROWTH IN LANGUAGE, LITERACY, MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL FUNCTIONING, CREATIVE ART, PHYSICAL SKILLS, AND APPROACHES TO LEARNING. PARENTS RECEIVE SOCIAL SERVICES AND PARTICIPATE IN VARIOUS DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES RELATED TO THE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM.


SPECIAL SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN (WIC)WIC PROVIDES SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITIOUS FOODS, NUTRITION EDUCATION, AND REFERRALS TO HEALTH CARE FOR LOW-INCOME PERSONS DURING CRITICAL PERIODS OF GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. SUCH PERSONS INCLUDE PREGNANT WOMEN, BREAST-FEEDING WOMEN UP TO ONE YEAR POSTPARTUM, NON-BREAST-FEEDING WOMEN UP TO SIX MONTHS POSTPARTUM, INFANTS (PERSONS UNDER ONE YEAR OF AGE), AND CHILDREN UNDER AGE FIVE DETERMINED TO BE AT NUTRITIONAL RISK. INTERVENTION DURING THE PRENATAL PERIOD IMPROVES FETAL DEVELOPMENT AND REDUCES THE INCIDENCE OF LOW BIRTH WEIGHT, SHORT GESTATION, AND ANEMIA.


PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAMTHE GOAL OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS TO INITIATE, IMPROVE, OR CONTINUE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICE IN RURAL AREAS BY PROVIDING FINACIAL ASSISTANCE FOR OPERATING, PLANNING, ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES, AND THE ACQUISITION, CONSTRUCTION, AND IMPROVEMENT OF FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT.


PROVIDE RELIEF TO THOSE IN POVERTY BY PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THE LOW-INCOME POPULATION IN THE AREA SERVED THROUGH THE MEANS OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAMS AND ASSISTANCE.
