THE UYGHUR HUMAN RIGHTS PROJECT (UHRP) PROMOTES THE RIGHTS OF THE UYGHURS AND OTHER TURKIC MUSLIM PEOPLES IN EAST TURKISTAN, REFERRED TO BY THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT AS THE XINJIANG UYGHUR AUTONOMOUS REGION, THROUGH RESEARCH-BASED ADVOCACY.

RESEARCH AND COMMUNICATIONS. UHRP CONTINUED TO DOCUMENT AND MOBILIZE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF ATROCITY CRIMES AGAINST UYGHURS. IN 2022, UHRP PUBLISHED SIX RESEARCH REPORTS, FOCUSING ON TRANSNATIONAL REPRESSION, FORCED LABOR, FORCED AND COERCIVE MARRIAGE, THE DESTRUCTION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE, AND A GUIDE FOR RESEARCHERS AND JOURNALISTS ON THE UYGHUR LANGUAGE. DOCUMENTATION WAS CIRCULATED VIA OP-EDS, SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS IN FOUR LANGUAGES, PRESENTATIONS AT CONFERENCES AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS, AND SUBMISSIONS TO FACT-FINDING BODIES. UHRP'S CHINESE-LANGUAGE REPORTS, SOCIAL MEDIA OUTREACH, AND EVENTS PROVIDE A UNIQUE RESOURCE OF ACCURATE INFORMATION FOR CHINESE SPEAKERS REGARDING UYGHUR HUMAN RIGHTS.
ADVOCACY. UHRP CONTINUED ITS ADVOCACY TO MOBILIZE ACTION TO SUPPORT UYGHUR HUMAN RIGHTS. UHRP STAFF TESTIFIED BEFORE PARLIAMENTARY AND INDEPENDENT FACT-FINDING PANELS AND SUBMITTED DOCUMENTATION AND POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS TO NATIONAL GOVERNMENTS AND INTERNATIONAL BODIES, INCLUDING THE UNITED NATIONS. UHRP CONTINUED TO PLAY A LEADING ROLE IN MOBILIZING COALITIONS TO PROMOTE ACTION ON PREVENTION AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR CHINESE GOVERNMENT ATROCITY CRIMES INCLUDING STATE-ORGANIZED FORCED LABOR, RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION, GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE, AND OTHER EGREGIOUS ABUSES. UHRP CONTINUES TO PLAY AN ACTIVE ROLE IN A NUMBER OF COALITIONS, INCLUDING AS A MEMBER OF THE STEERING COMMITTEE OF THE COALITION TO END FORCED LABOUR IN THE UYGHUR REGION.
HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE. UHRP CONTINUED TO PROVIDE HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT FOR UYGHUR REFUGEES AND ASYLUM-SEEKERS, INCLUDING ACTION TO RESCUE UYGHURS AROUND THE WORLD FACING POSSIBLE DEPORTATION TO CHINA. UHRP IS A CO-MANAGER OF THE UYGHUR WELLNESS INITIATIVE, WHICH ORGANIZES ACTIVITIES TO HELP UYGHUR DIASPORA MEMBERS EXPERIENCING COMMUNITY AND INDIVIDUAL TRAUMA DUE TO THE ONGOING GENOCIDE.
