WASHINGTON POLICY INSTITUTE IS A NONPROFIT, NONPARTISAN PUBLIC POLICY INSTITUTE DEDICATED TO ADVANCING FAITH, FAMILY, FREEDOM AND SERVICE THROUGH RESPONSIBLE MEDIA AND ACHIEVABLE POLICY SOLUTIONS. THE INSTITUTE WILL PURSUE ITS OBJECTIVES THROUGH RIGOROUS EMPIRICAL RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS AND BROAD DISSEMINATION OF ITS RESEARCH RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO DECISION MAKERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC VIA WEBINARS, CONFERENCES AND VARIOUS FORMS OF MEDIA. Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE - ONE OF THE INSTITUTE'S PRIMARY OBJECTIVES IS TO PROMOTE "THOUGHT LEADERSHIP" IN JOURNALISM BY SUPPORTING RIGOROUS RESEARCH AND POLICY ANALYSIS AND OBJECTIVE, INDEPENDENT EXPOSITION OF COMMON-SENSE PUBLIC POLICY SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS SUCH AS FAMILY BREAKDOWN, CRIME AND POVERTY. THE ORGANIZATION HOPES TO ADVANCE CIVIL PUBLIC DISCOURSE WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF ACHIEVING ACCORD.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE INSTITUTE'S WASHINGTON INVESTIGATIVE FUND IS TO SUPPORT AND IMPROVE PUBLIC INTEREST AND INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING. AS THE FINANCIAL RESOURCES OF NEWSPAPERS AND OTHER MEDIA OUTLETS HAVE DECLINED DURING RECENT YEARS, THE ABILITY OF THE MEDIA TO ENGAGE IN PUBLIC INTEREST AND INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING HAS ALSO DIMINISHED. THE INSTITUTE'S WASHINGTON INVESTIGATIVE FUND WILL SUPPORT PUBLIC INTEREST REPORTING OF IMPORTANT STORIES NOT GENERALLY COVERED BY THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA. IN SOME INSTANCES, THE INSTITUTE MAY MAKE GRANTS TO INTERESTED MEDIA OUTLETS TO SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION OF PUBLIC INTEREST REPORTING THAT WOULD BE UNAFFORDABLE AND CONSEQUENTLY NOT ACCOMPLISHED ABSENT THE INSTITUTE'S GRANT. IN ADDITION, THE INSTITUTE MAY PROVIDE EDITORIAL GUIDANCE AND INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT TO ASSIST IN THE PRODUCTION OF IMPORTANT INVESTIGATIVE STORIES.
