JEWISH WOMEN'S THEATRE (JWT), DBA THE BRAID, IS THE NATION'S GO-TO JEWISH STORY COMPANY. OUR PURPOSE IS TO LEAVE NO JEWISH STORY UNTOLD WHILE CELEBRATING THE TRUTHS THAT CONNECT ALL PEOPLE. WE CREATE, PRODUCE, AND PRESERVE STORIES GROUNDED IN JEWISH CULTURE AND EXPERIENCE TO IMPOWER INDIVIDUALS, INSPIRE COMMUNITY, AND BUILD CULTURAL LEGACY.

THE BRAID IS KNOWN FOR PIONEERING "SALON THEATRE AND CREATING A SHAREABLE LEGACY OF CONTEMPORARY JEWISH STORIES THAT CAN BE PERFORMED ANYWHERE. EACH SEASON THE BRAID PRODUCES 3-5 NEW SHOWS ON VARIED THEMES. OUR COLLECITON OF OVER 76 ACCLAIMED SHOWS SPOTLIGHTLING JEWISH DIVERSITY FEATURES THE TALENT OF OVER 675 ARTISTS AND CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS AGES 12-99, AND CHALLENGES ARTISTS AND AUDIENCES TO THINK DIFFERENTLY, CELEBRATE OUR COLLECTIVE HUMANITY WHILE COMBATTING ANTISEMITISM. IN COLLABORATION WITH OVER 255 COMMUNITY PARTNERS, WE REGULARLY PERFORM IN OUR PERFORMANCE VENUE, MUSEUMS, UNIVERSITIES, ART GALLERIES, COMMUNITY CENTERS, SENIOR LIVING FACILITIES, AND SYNAGOGUES IN LOS ANGELES AND BEYOND, REACHING AUDIENCES IN 49 STATES AND 40 COUNTRIES.
THE BRAID HAS REPEATEDLY BEEN VOTED "BEST LIVE THEATRE ON THE WESISIDE AND RECOGNIZED AS A CHANGE AGENT. THROUGH ITS DIVERSE AND VARIED PERFORMANCES, WRITER'S WORKSHOPES, CLASSES, SPEAKER'S SERIES, ART TALKS, AND COMMUNITY EVENTS, THE BRAID HAS DELIGHTED OVER 135,000 COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THE ORGANIZATION'S UNIQUE ARTS AND CULTURE EXPERIENCES ARE NOW ALSO ACCESSIBLE GLOBALLY VIA ZOOM PERFORMANCES, OUR DIGITAL STORYNOSH SERIES, STREAMING ON CHAIFLICKS AND OTHER ONLINE PLATFORMS. THE BRAID'S COMMISSIONED SHOW, NOT THAT JEWISH, RAN AT ITS PERFORMANCE VENUE EARNING AN OVATION RECOMMENDATION AND LA DRAMA CRITICS CIRCLE NOMINATION AND ALSO RAN OFF-BROADWAY FOR 200 PERFORMANCES. OUR COMMISSIONED PLAY, STORIES FROM THE VIOLINS OF HOPE, WAS PRESENTED BY THE UNITED NATIONS. IT WAS ALSO TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE REACHING AUDIENCES IN 14 LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES.
THE BRAID RUNS NEXT, AN EMERGING ARTISTS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR DIVERSE YOUNG ADULT ARTS LEADERS TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY TO SHOWCASE NEXT GENERATION VOICES AND TALENT. THE PROGRAM, IN ITS 7TH YEAR, CREATES NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF ARTS PROFESSIONALS AND AUDIENCES TO DEVELOP AND FLOURISH BY BUILDING AN ARTISTIC PLATFORM AND AND COMMUNITY TO EXPLORE AND CELEBRATE CULTURAL HERITAGE.
