AL OTRO LADO (AOL) PROVIDES INNOVATIVE CROSS-BORDER LEGAL SERVICES TO REFUGEES, DEPORTEES, AND OTHER MIGRANTSIN TIJUANA, MEXICO AND THROUGHOUT THROUGHOUT THE U.S., WITH A FOCUS ON SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. AOL'S MISSION IS TO UPLIFT IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES BY DEFENDING THE RIGHTS OF MIGRANTS AGAINST SYSTEMIC INJUSTICES IN THE LEGAL SYSTEM AND FIGHTING FOR ALL FAMILIES THAT HAVE BEEN TORN APART BY UNJUST IMMIGRATION LAWS. AOL HAS REPRESENTED CLIENTS IN IMMIGRATION PROCEEDINGS SINCE 2017, WITH A FOCUS ON INDIGENT, HARD-TO REACH, UNDERSERVED, AND EXCEPTIONALLY VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. AOL HAS BEEN A LEADING ORGANIZATION WORKING ON FAMILY REUNIFICATION AND PROVIDES REPRESENTATION AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO SEPARATED FAMILIES IN CENTRAL AMERICA AND REUNIFIED FAMILIES RESIDING THROUGHOUT THE U.S. AOL HAS ALSO SERVED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF REFUGEES IN BAJA CALIFORNIA AND OTHER US-MEXICO BORDER REGIONS. AOL PROVIDES HOLISTIC, TRAUMA-INFORMED SERVICES, ENGAGING PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS, AND THOUSANDS

BORDER RIGHTS PROJECT: AL OTRO LADO'S BORDER RIGHTS PROJECT PROVIDES LEGAL ORIENTATION AND ACCOMPANIMENT TO ASYLUM SEEKERS AT THE US-MEXICO BORDER. WE EMPOWER MIGRANTS TO MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS, ACCOMPANY THEM IN THE HUMANITARIAN PAROLE PROCESS, CONDUCT HUMAN RIGHTS MONITORING, AND LITIGATE AGAINST GOVERNMENT ABUSES. OVER 40,000 MIGRANTS ACROSS EIGHT ORDER CITIES HAVE COMPLETED OUR ONLINE SURVEY TO REGISTER FOR SERVICES IN SPANISH, HAITIAN KREYOL, FRENCH, ENGLISH, RUSSIAN AND UKRAINIAN. IN THE PAST YEAR, WE PROVIDED LEGAL ORIENTATION TO 10,000+ MIGRANTS AND ACCOMPANIED 8,500 ASYLUM SEEKERS FROM18 COUNTRIES TO SEEK HUMANITARIAN PAROLE AND SAFETY IN THE US.


TJ HUMANITARIAN AID PROGRAMACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE YEAR: COORDINATED COVID TESTING FOR 10,000+ REFUGEES WHO HAD BEEN GRANTED HUMANITARIAN PAROLE BORDER-WIDE; PAID FOR SURGERY, MEDICATION, AND SPECIALIZED MEDICAL CARE FOR DOZENS OF REFUGEES IN BAJA CALIFORNIA; ADMINISTERED OUR "PREGNANT AND NURSING MOTHER SUPPORT GROUP," THROUGH WHICH WE PROVIDED PRENATAL VITAMINS, AND WELLNESS/PARENTING CLASSES; PROVIDED 1,200+ MOM/BABY PACKAGES (DIAPERS, FORMULA, WIPES) BENEFITING NEARLY 500 BABIES, PROVIDED EMERGENCY HOUSING AND FOOD FOR DISABLED/MEDICALLY VULNERABLE REFUGEES AND THOSE AT IMMINENT RISK OF HARM; SUPPORTED TEN SHELTERS SERVING THOUSANDS OF MIGRANTS THROUGH FOOD, HYGIENE ITEMS, STOVES, REFIGERATORS, AND RENT/UTILITY PAYMENTS.


OTAY MESA RELEASE PROJECTTHE US-BASED ADVOCACY PROGRAM REPRESENTS IMMIGRANTS ON THE DETAINED AND NON-DETAINED DEFENSIVE DOCKETS AND IN AFFIRMATIVE CASES BEFORE US CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIRATION SERVICES. WE APPEAR BEFORE THE IMMIGRATION COURT, THE BOARD OF IMMIGRATION APPEALS, AND THE NINTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS AND BRING HABEAS LAWSUITS FOR INDIVIDUAL IMMIGRANTS IN DETENTION BEFORE THE FEDERAL DISTRICT COURTS. WE ALSO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT AND HUMANITARIAN AID TO OUR CLIENTS..
