THE CUBACARIBE FESTIVAL OF DANCE AND MUSIC IS THE CENTER OF THE ORGANIZATION'S PROGRAMMING ANDCRUCIAL TO ITS MISSION. HELD ANNUALLY OVER TWO TO THREE WEEKS EACH SPRING, IT IS THE ONLY FESTIVAL IN THEBAY AREA DEVOTED TO FOLKLORIC AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND MUSIC OF THE AFRO-CARIBBEAN AND ITSDIASPORA.


THE RESIDENT DANCE COMPANY OF CUBACARIBE FEATURES RAMOS' INNOVATIVE FUSION OF AFRO-CUBAN MODERN, FOLKLORIC AND POPULAR CUBAN DANCE. ALAYO HAS CHOREOGRAPHED THIRTEENEVENING-LENGTH WORKS FOR HIS COMPANY THAT FUSE MODERN, AFRO-CUBAN FOLKLORIC, AND POPULARDANCE AND THAT DEAL WITH SOCIAL AND PERSONAL ISSUES, SUCH AS SLAVERY, POLLUTION,IMMIGRATION, CANCER, AND RACISM FROM AN AFRO-CUBAN PERSPECTIVE LOCAL ONGOING DANCECLASSES TAKE PLACE WEEKLY AT A VARIETY OF BAY AREA STUDIOS. BOTH GROUP AND PRIVATE, ADULTAND YOUTH CLASSES ARE OFFERED. THESE ATTRACT LARGE AMOUNTS OF PEOPLE INTERESTED IN LEARNINGEITHER FOLKLORIC, MODERN AND POPULAR CUBAN STYLES.


SAN FRANCISCO CARVAVAL DANCE CONTINGENT IS ALSO AN ANNUAL PROGRAM WHERE ALAYO LEADS AGROUP WITH AFRO-CUBAN COMPARSA AND CONGA MOVEMENTS AND MUSIC IN THE MISSION DISTRICTPARADE.
