OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE CUSTOMIZED PROSTHESES TO THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED LIMB LOSS THROUGH TRAUMATIC CIRCUMSTANCES.

GRANTS TO INDIVIDUALS - BECAUSE SO FEW SPECIALIZED PROSTHETIC DEVICES ARE COVERED BY HEALTH INSURANCE, THE HEATHER ABBOTT FOUNDATION PROVIDES GRANTS TO INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE SUFFERED LIMB LOSS THROUGH TRAUMA. FIVE INDIVIDUALS WERE AWARDED WITH SPECIALIZED PROSTHETIC DEVICES IN THE FISCAL YEAR. GRANT APPLICANTS COMPLY WITH A FORMAL GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS AS DESCRIBED ON THE FOUNDATION'S WEBSITE.


RAISE AWARENESS - THE FOUNDATION ALSO AIMS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC AS TO THE ONGOING STRUGGLES OF THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED TRAUMATIC LIMB LOSS THROUGH REGULAR FUNDRAISING EVENTS AND PARTICIPATION IN MARATHONS AND OTHER ATHLETIC/RUNNING EVENTS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO COMMISSIONED AND RELEASED PROFESSIONALLY PRODUCED AWARENESS VIDEOS DOCUMENTING OUR PROSTHESIS BENEFICIARIES IN THIS FISCAL YEAR. THE VIDEOS HIGHLIGHTED AT A FUNDRAISER AND UPLOADED TO HAF'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL.


HAF KIDS' CAMP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - FUNDS ARE DEDICATED TO PROVIDING CHILDREN, WHO ARE AMPUTEES, THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND CAMPS GEARED TOWARD THOSE WHO LIVE WITH LIMB LOSS. IN FY 2022, ONE SCHOLARSHIP WAS AWARDED TO ATTEND "CAMP NO LIMITS." THE CAMP TYPICALLY RUNS DURING JUNE, JULY & AUGUST. "CAMP NO LIMITS" IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR CHILDREN WITH LIMB LOSS, WHICH PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO MEET OTHER CHILDREN AMPUTEES, IN A COMFORTABLE, SAFE ENVIRONMENT. THESE CHILDREN ARE ABLE TO TRY NEW ACTIVITIES LIKE BIKING AND YOGA, WITHOUT THE WORRY OF ABLE-BODIED PEERS OUTSHINING THEM. THEY ARE ENCOURAGED TO TALK ABOUT THEIR STRUGGLES WITH EACH OTHER AND WITH CAMP COUNSELORS, OFTEN TEENAGE AND ADULT AMPUTEES, ALLOWING THEM THE CONFIDENCE AND CONNECTIONS THEY NEED TO THRIVE AND DEVELOP INTERESTS IN ACTIVITIES THAT REQUIRE THE USE OF SPECIALIZED PROSTHESES.
