WE PROVIDE IN-HOME FAMILY WORK SERVICES TO FAMILIES INVOLVED WITH LEHIGH AND NORTHAMPTON COUNTY CHILDREN & YOUTH AGENCIES. A WORKER IS ASSIGNED TO EACH FAMILY. WE WORK TO ADDRESS ISSUES SUCH AS LACK OF HOUSING, MENTAL HEALTH, ABUSE/NEGLECT, ADDICTION, ETC. TO PREVENT THE CHILDREN FROM BEING REMOVED FROM THE FAMILY HOME OR REUNIFY THEM IF THEY ARE IN PLACEMENT. WE PROVIDE SUPPORTIVE COUNSELING, EDUCATION AND LINK PEOPLE TO OTHER RESOURCES IN THEIR COMMUNITY.WE PROVIDE FOSTER CARE FOR LEHIGH & NORTHAMPTON COUNTY CHILDREN UNTIL PERMANENCY IS ACHIEVED. CHILDREN CAN RETURN TO PARENTS, EXTENDED FAMILY, BE ADOPTED OR PLACED THROUGH SUBSIDIZED LEGAL CUSTODY. LVFT ENGAGES THE PARENT IMMEDIATELY UPON THEIR CHILD'S PLACEMENT SO THAT THEY FEEL WELCOMED AND PART OF THE TEAM (THERE ARE RARE EXCEPTIONS FOR SAFETY REASONS). WE ALSO SUPPORT FOSTER PARENTS WITH EDUCATIONAL, COUNSELING OR BEHAVIORAL NEEDS OF THE CHILDREN.WE PROVIDE VISIT COACHING TO FAMILIES DEEMED APPROPRIATE FOR THE SERVICE IN LEHIGH COUNTY. VISIT COACHING INCLUDES: HELPING PARENTS ARTICULATE THEIR CHILDREN'S NEEDS TO BE MET IN VISITS, PREPARING PARENTS FOR THE CHILDREN'S REACTIONS, HELPING PARENTS PLAN TO GIVE THEIR CHILDREN THEIR FULL ATTENTION AT EACH VISIT, APPRECIATING PARENTS' STRENGTHS IN RESPONDING TO THEIR CHILD AND COACHING THEM TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS, SUPPORTIVELY REMINDING PARENTS IMMEDIATELY BEFORE AND DURING THE VISIT OF HOW THEY PLANNED TO MEET THEIR CHILD'S NEED, AND HELPING PARENTS COPE WITH THEIR FEELINGS IN ORDER TO VISIT CONSISTENTLY AND KEEP NEGATIVE FEELINGS FROM INTERFERING WITH THE VISIT.
