TO CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION AND ITS HARMFUL EFFECTS; HELP FIGHT TO ELIMINATE IT; AND PROVIDE SUPPORT TO SURVIVORS OF THE PRACTICE.

Part 3 - Line 4a
WITH AN INCREASE IN GENDER BASED VIOLENCE, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, AND CHILD MARRIAGE CASES, SAFE HANDS FOR GIRLS LAUNCHED THE COVID-19 RELIEF PROGRAM TO HELP WOMEN, FACING VIOLENCE, DURING THE PANDEMIC; AND FOR GIRLS WHO WERE FORCED INTO MARRIAGES, AND WERE FLEEING. THIS PROGRAM HAS HELPED MORE THAN 30,000 FEMALE HOUSEHOLDS, AND IS ONGOING.
THE U.S. ADVOCACY PROGRAM PROVIDES TRAINING OF FGM SURVIVORS TO BECOME INFORMATION ADVISORS IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES. IT ALSO INCLUDES VARIOUS WORKSHOPS AROUND THE ATLANTA AREA TO TEACH PRACTICING COMMUNITIES ABOUT FGM AND TO WORK WITH FRONT LINE PROFESSIONALS. YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE CONDUCTED IN AFTER SCHOOL SETTINGS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL REFUGEE STUDENTS AT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES WITH LARGE IMMIGRANT POPULATIONS AND HELPING THEM BECOME ADVOCATES FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH.
MOST COUNTRIES IN WEST AFRICA HAVE LAWS AGAINST FGM AND CHILD MARRIAGE, AND THE PRACTICE STILL CONTINUES. THE CROSS BORDER ADVOCACY AND TRAINING IS A PROGRAM GEARED TOWARDS PROTECTING GIRLS THAT ARE TRAVELING, BY ROAD, WHO COULD BE FORCED INTO THESE PRACTICES. THE PROGRAM RAISED AWARENESS, AS WELL, BY PASSING OUT FLYERS AND INFORMATION TO PEOPLE, WHO NEED IT, IN LOCAL AND SIMPLIFIED LANGUAGES. THE PROGRAM TOOK PLACE BETWEEN AUGUST 18TH THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2021.
