Part 3
FOR 8 SUCCESSFUL YEARS, PRIOR TO THE UNPRECEDENTED PANDEMIC, WE HELD THE SERNA SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM. WE WOULD SUPPLEMENT THE ONGOING SCHOOL TUTORING PROGRAM FOR A NEARBY TITLE 1 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, TO STOP THE "SUMMER SLIDE- AND TO HELP THE "AT RISK" CHILDREN FROM FALLING BEHIND OVER THE SUMMER. WE WOULD HIRE CERTIFIED TEACHERS FROM THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO MAINTAIN THE CURRICULUM FOR THE STUDENTS FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 5TH GRADE. THE AREA WE SERVE IS THE SECOND MOST DIVERSE IN THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO, WITH FOOD INSECURITY ALSO BEING A PROBLEM WE ADDRESSED BY PROVIDING 2 HOT MEALS AND A HEALTHY DAILY SNACK FOR ALL STUDENTS ATTENDING THE PROGRAM. WE ARE THE ONLY ORGANIZATION IN THE AREA THAT PROVIDES AN ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT PROGRAM.
