THE PURPOSE OF THE MIDLAND STORYTELLING FESTIVAL WAS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THE FOLLOWING:OUR WEEKEND FESTIVAL WAS HELD VIRTUALLY AND IN-PERSON AND FEATURED NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MASTER STORYTELLERS PRESENTING THE ART OF ORAL COMMUNICATION. THEY MODEL FOR AUDIENCES OF ALL AGES THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION WHILE INCORPORATING THE ROLE OF READING AND LITERACY. PROGRAMS ARE PRESENTED AT SCHOOLS, RETIREMENT ORGANIZATIONS AND THE CONVENTION CENTER AS WELL AS ONLINE THROUGH THE USE OF YOU TUBE AND SOCIAL MEDIA.THE JOURNEY: A BLACK HISTORY MONTH EVENT WAS STORYTELLING PRESENTED IN A VARIETY OF ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS TO EXPAND THE INTEREST OF AUDIENCES. A MASTER STORYTELLER WAS INVITED TO DO THE SPOKEN WORD; AN INTERPRETIVE DANCER PERFORMED STORY IN DANCE; AND A GOSPEL CHOIR PROVIDED STORY THROUGH MUSIC. THE INVITED TELLER ALSO PRESENTED SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND WAS FEATURED IN A WEBCAST VIRTUALLY.YOUTH STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS/CONTESTS WERE CONDUCTED FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH INSTRUCTING YOUTH AGES 6-18 IN THE ART OF STORYTELLING. THEY WERE ASSISTED IN STORY SELECTION, GIVEN INSTRUCTION ABOUT HOW TO CRAFT AND EDIT THIER STORIES AS WELL AS STAND AND SHARE THIER STORIES IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE.
