COVID 19 RECOVERY & RELIEF- IN MARCH 2020 WHEN THE PANDEMIC FIRST DIRECTLY IMPACTED ARKANSAS, MEI LAUNCHED THEIR COVID-19 RELIEF AND RESPONSE PROJECT. OIA'S CONTINUED ASSISTANCE KEPT STAFF IN PLACE AND ADDITIONAL FEDERAL GRANTS, CITY, AND PRIVATE GRANTS ALLOWED US TO PROVIDE FOOD, PPE, CLEANING SUPPLIES, AND FUNERAL, UTILITY, AND RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO MARSHALLESE COMMUNITY MEMBERS, TO CONDUCT EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH, AND TO HIRE ADDITIONAL STAFF TO MEET RESPONSE DEMANDS. STAFF HAVE WORKED TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY DIRECTLY AND THROUGH PSA'S, COMMUNITY DRIVES AND OUTREACH EVENTS, AND TRANSLATOR SERVICES. MEI IS ALSO CURRENTLY DEVELOPING AN ONLINE TRAINING FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS.
MEI STAFF HELP MARSHALLESE NAVIGATE LIFE IN THE UNITED STATES (ARKANSAS). PROGRAMMING AREAS INCLUDE DAY TO DAY OUTREACH, INTERPRETER AND TRANSLATIONS SERIVCES, AND ONE-ON-ONE ASSISTANCE (MAINTAINING A STAFF AND OFFICE). SPECIFIC PROGRAMS ARE AIMED AT YOUTH, WOMEN, AND ELDER POPULATIONS. YOUTH PROGRAMMING IS CENTERED ON RAISING EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT LEVELS AND PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. IN, ADDITION MEI'S WOMEN'S ADVOCACY PROJECT IS FOCUSED ON RAISING AWARENESS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND TRAFFICKING AND HELPING MITIGATE ITS PREVALENCE IN PACIFIC ISLANDER CULTURE.
