Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

OUR MISSION IS TO BUILD AN ECONOMIC BASE OF SELF-DETERMINATION FOR HIP HOP CULTURE TO ONCE AGAIN PRODUCE, EMPLOY, EDUCATE, AND EMPOWER MARGINALIZED AND HISTORICALLY NEGLECTED VOICES IN OUR COMMUNITY. OUR AIM IS TO RESTORE HIP HOP AS A TOOL FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ADVOCACY, TO PROMOTE EQUITY AND REAL SYSTEMS CHANGE IN THE US AND WORLDWIDE, AND TO HAVE A LOT OF FUN WHILE DOING IT.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

HIP HOP EDUCATION: OUR EDUCATION HAS REACHED OVER 25,000 K-12 YOUTH BY USING HIP HOP CULTURE AS A VEHICLE TO EMPOWER OUR COMMUNITIES THROUGH ITS EXPRESSION. WE PARTNER WITH STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES, SUCH AS THE CITY OF OAKLAND AND THE CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL, TO IMPLEMENT PROGRAMS TO SECURE PLATFORMS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY TO REVIVE ARTS EDUCATION IN UNDERSERVED BAY AREA DISTRICTS.

GRASSROOTS PROGRAM: WE'VE EMPLOYED 1000+ PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE, PROVIDING THEM WITH LIVABLE WAGES AND PROFESSIONAL JOB TRAINING. OUR GRASSROOTS TEAM WORKS TO BRIDGE THE GAPS BETWEEN AFFLUENT AND DISPARATE COMMUNITIES BY EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ON ISSUES OF RACE, SOCIAL JUSTICE, AND THE COOPTATION OF HIP HOP.

SOCIAL JUSTICE EVENTS: OUR SOCIAL JUSTICE EVENTS ARE SUPPORTED BY COMMUNITY FUNDS AND SPONSORSHIPS TO ALLOW FREE AND ACCESSIBLE EXPERIENCES FOR ALL. THESE EVENTS ARE CENTERED AROUND THE MOST PRESSING SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES THAT OUR COMMUNITIES FACE. IN ADDITION TO SERVING AS COMMUNITY SPACES FOR CREATIVE EXPRESSION AND HEALING, THESE EVENTS DISRUPT THE CURRENT MODELS OF CONSUMER CAPITALISM THAT INHIBIT HIP HOP FROM SHINING AT ITS BEST.
