RENTAL ASSISTANCE - PROVIDING RENTAL ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS FACING EVICTION. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS BY ASSISTING HOUSING-INSECURE INDIVIDUALS. ANY INDIVIDUAL FACING EVICTION MAY APPLY FOR ASSISTENCE THROUGH THE PROGRAM, AND THE ORGANIZATION ASSESSES THE APPROPRIATENESS OF NEED IN PROVIDING ASSISTANCE. RENTAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED TO 245 HOUSEHOLDS IN 2021 AND INCLUDED SECURITY DEPOSITS AND/OR FIRST MONTHS RENT TO GET UNHOUSED HOUSEHOLDS INTO HOUSING. IT ALSO INCLUDED ASSISTANCE WITH CURRENT OR BACK RENT TO HELP HOUSING INSECURE HOUSEHOLDS REMAIN STABLY HOUSED AND AVOID EVICTIONS.
FINANCIAL HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE: PROVIDING HARDSHIP ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS IN COVERING ESSENTIAL EXPENSES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO TRANSPORTATION, MEDICAL CARE, UTILITIES, GROCERIES, AND CHILDCARE. ANY INDIVIDUAL STRUGGLING FINANCIALLY WITH THESE ESSENTIALS MAY APPLY FOR ASSISTENCE THROUGH THE PROGRAM, AND THE ORGANIZATION ASSESSES THE APPROPRIATENESS OF NEED IN PROVIDING ASSISTANCE. A TOTAL OF 352 APPLICATIONS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WERE RECEIVED IN 2021 THROUGH ZACAH'S REGULAR PROGRAMMING.
HOTEL STAYS FOR THE HOMELESS: PROVIDING EMERGENCY HOTEL STAYS TO THE HOMELESS. THIS PROGRAM WAS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO INCREASED HOMELESSNESS IN THE TWIN CITIES AND GREATER MINNESOTA AREA AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, ENCAMPMENT EVICTIONS, AND HARSH WEATHER CONDITIONS. ZACAH PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 2,570 HOTEL NIGHTS IN 2021 FOR UNHOUSED INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES.
