TO PROMOTE AND DEFEND THE RIGHTS OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH TO SAFE, STABLE HOMES, QUALITY EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE, AND A VOICE IN DECISIONS THAT AFFECT THEIR LIVES.

THIS PAST YEAR PEGASUS HAS CONTINUED ITS WORK AS A LEGAL RESOURCE FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH AND THEIR CAREGIVERS, AND THE COMMUNITY CONCERNING THE LEGAL RIGHTS AND NEEDS OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH.SPECIFICALLY, WE CONTINUED ITS COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF NATIVE AMERICAN CHILDREN. IN ADDITION TO REPRESENTING CHILDREN IN THE SPECIALIZED INDIAN CHILD WELFARE ACT (ICWA), PEGASUS HAS EXPANDED OUR REPRESENTATION OF CHILDREN TO THE PUEBLOS OF LAGUNA, ZUNI, SANTA ANA AND ISLETA. ADDITIONALLY, WE JOINED OVER 30 OF OUR COLLEAGUES NATIONALLY TO SIGN AN AMICUS BRIEF TO THE SUPREME COURT IN SUPPORT OF PROTECTING ICWA AND THE RIGHTS OF NATIVE AMERICAN FAMILIES.ADDITIONALLY, WE SAW A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE FOR LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR KINSHIP GUARDIANSHIP. THIS IS PRIMARILY DUE TO COVID LEAVING CHILDREN BEING ORPHAHED.WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE REPRESENTATION TO YOUTH STRUGGLING WITH HOMELESSNESS, MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND OTHER RELATED ISSUES.FINALLY, WE CONTINUE TO PARTNER WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF CHILDREN IN NEW MEXICO.
