QIZHJEH HERITAGE INSTITUTE (QHI) IS A 501(C)(3) ALASKA NATIVE NON-PROFIT ENTITY WITH THE MISSION TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND RESILIENCY OF ALASKA NATIVE AND AMERICAN INDIAN PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATION, COMMUNICATION AND A COMMITMENT TO CULTURE.

Part 3

DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE OFFICE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (DOJ OVW) GRANT: QHI PERFORMS TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICES TO TRIBAL GRANTEES AND TRIBAL COALITIONS. THE PURPOSE OF THE GRANT IS TO PROVIDE TRAININGS AND SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTISE TO OVW TRIBAL GRANTEES TO ASSIST THEM IN CREATING OUTREACH CAMPAIGNS AND OF COMMUNICATIONS MATERIALS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF VIOLENCE IN NATIVE COMMUNITIES AND TO PREVENT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. QHI RECEIVED THE FIRST OVW GRANT IN 2019. THE FIRST GRANT WAS FUNDED FOR 24 MONTHS AND WAS EXTENDED DUE TO COVID (QHI RECEIVED A NO-COST EXTENSION). QHI RECEIVED A FOLLOW-UP GRANT FOR A SIMILAR PROGRAM IN SEPTEMBER 2021.


ALASKA HUMANITIES FORUM GRANT PROVIDED RESOURCES FOR FUNDING OPERATING AND OVERHEAD EXPENSES FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE SERVICES AND PROGRAMMING WHICH IS IN LINE WITH THE MISSION OF THE ALASKA HUMANITIES FORUM. QHI USED THIS GRANT TO FUND STAFF SALARIES.


ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION (RWJF), CULTURE OF HEALTH LEADERS GRANT: QHI IS SERVING AS A FISCAL SPONSOR FOR THIS GRANT PROGRAM. THE GRANT FUNDS A PROJECT DESIGNED AND MANAGED BY A INTERNATIONAL DATA SYSTEMS (IDS) STAFF MEMBER, WHO WAS A RECIPIENT OF THE RWJF CULTURE OF HEALTH LEADERS FELLOWSHIP. THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM EXPLORES THE ROLE OF TRAUMA IN COMMUNITIES AND BUILDING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES. QHI SERVED AS A FISCAL SPONSOR, OVERSEEING THE USE AND DISBURSEMENT OF GRANT FUNDS, AND ENSURING THAT PROGRAMMATIC REQUIREMENTS WERE MET.
