"WHY DIVERSITY MATTERS-UPDATES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA" (THE FIRST PROGRAM OF JHLAF-MUFG DIVERSITY INCLUSION PROGRAM SERIES) DESCRIPTION: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IS ONE OF THE MOST DIVERSE REGIONS IN THE UNITED STATES. THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF EFFORTS BY THE GOVERNMENTS, BUSINESSES, AND NON-PROFITS TO EMBRACE AND PROMOTE D&I TO EMPOWER THE SOCIETY, WHILE THERE ARE STILL CHALLENGES AND UNFINISHED WORKS AHEAD. THIS SERIES OF PROGRAMS WILL LOOK INTO WHAT THE CURRENT D&I SITUATION IS, IDENTIFY CHALLENGES AND ONGOING EFFORTS, AND PROPOSE WHAT SHOULD BE DONE FURTHER THROUGH COLLABORATING AMONG DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES AND SEGMENTS INCLUDING JAPANESE, JAPANESE AMERICANS, AND OTHER COMMUNITIES. IT WILL ALSO OFFER JAPANESE NATIONALS LIVING IN THE U.S. THE OPPORTUNITIES TO THINK WHAT DIVERSITY MEANS TO THEM AND HOW THEY CAN PROMOTE IT IN THEIR OWN FIELDS OF PROFESSIONS.
