SEE SCHEDULE OELIFE WAS FOUNDED IN RESPONSE TO AN INITIATIVE TO DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS IN RESEARCH COMMUNICATION FROM FOUR INTERNATIONALLY PROMINENT, NONPROFIT ORGANISATIONS OPERATING IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST: HOWARD HUGHES MEDICAL INSTITUTE, MAX PLANCK SOCIETY FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE, AND WELLCOME TRUST, AND WERE JOINED BY THE KNUT AND ALICE WALLENBERG FOUNDATION IN 2018.ELIFE PUBLISHES WORK OF THE HIGHEST SCIENTIFIC STANDARDS AND IMPORTANCE IN ALL AREAS OF THE LIFE AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES. THE RESEARCH IS SELECTED AND EVALUATED BY WORKING SCIENTISTS AND IS MADE FREELY AVAILABLE TO ALL READERS WITHOUT DELAY. PUBLICATION FEES WERE INTRODUCED IN 2017 TO COVER SOME OF ELIFE'S CORE PUBLISHING COSTS. ELIFE ALSO INVESTS IN INNOVATION THROUGH OPEN-SOURCE TOOL DEVELOPMENT TO ACCELERATE RESEARCH COMMUNICATION AND DISCOVERY. OUR WORK IS GUIDED BY THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.
