IN 2021 SAWHORSE CHARTED A COURSE THROUGH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BRINGING OUR STUDENTS BACK TOGETHER TO DESIGN AND BUILD IN THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS. WITH TWO SCORE COMMUNITY AND INDUSTRY PARTNERS, SAWHORSE REVOLUTION WORKED WITH 100+ STUDENTS FURTHEST FROM EDUCATIONAL JUSTICE IN PANDEMIC-ADAPTED ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMMING. OUR STUDENTS BUILT FOR BIPOC ORGANIZATIONS PROMOTING FOOD JUSTICE ACROSS SOUTH SEATTLE. THEY DESIGNED AND BUILT TINY HOMES, CONSTRUCTED A NEIGHBORHOOD RESOURCE LOCKER, AND REBUILT CONFIDENCE, COMMUNITY, AND SOCIAL CONNECTIONS AFTER THE PREVIOUS YEAR OF EXTREME PANDEMIC DISRUPTION. HIGHLIGHTS ALSO INCLUDED STUDENTS COMPLETING ESTELITA'S LIBRARY AND DESIGNING A NEW ARTS CENTER DESIGNED FOR DEAF SPOTLIGHT, A GROUP THAT SERVES THE DEAF, DEAF-BLIND, DEAF-DISABLED, AND HARD OF HEARING COMMUNITY.
