ROOFTOP ROOTS IS A 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT ENTERPRISE WORKING TO GROW A MORE JUST, EQUITABLE, AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE BY TRANSFORMING THE WAY WE ENGAGE WITH URBAN AND SUBURBAN LANDSCAPES. WE DESIGN, BUILD, AND MAINTAIN ENVIRONMENTALLY BENEFICIAL GARDENS FOR RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, AND COMMUNITY CLIENTS, ADVANCING OUR MISSION TO GROW FOOD, JOBS, AND GREEN SPACES FOR ALL. SPECIFICALLY, WE USE THESE GARDENS AS VEHICLES TO NOT ONLY EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT HEALTH EATING AND SUSTAINABILITY, BUT ALSO AS A MEANS TO INCREASE COMMUNITY ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS, LOCALLY GROWN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES; CREATING DIGNIFIED, WELL-PAYING JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO FACE BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT; AND REGENERATING URBAN AND SUBURBAN LANDSCAPES TO SUPPORT BIODIVERSITY, SOIL HEALTH, AND WATER QUALITY. IN 2018, OUR EFFORTS RESULTED IN THE FOLLOWING ACCOMPLISHMENTS:-CREATED FOUR NEW PART-TIME JOBS FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE FACED BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT, INCLUDING HOMELESS AND FORMERLY HOMELESS PERSONS, AND RETURNING CITIZENS-QUADRUPLED OUR REVENUE TO GENERATE OVER $100K IN SUPPORT OF LOCALLY GROWN FOOD, JOBS, AND GREEN SPACES;-GREW OVER 12,000 POUNDS OF PRODUCE FOR COMMUNITIES IN NEED;-ENGAGED OVER 1,700 INDIVIDUALS THROUGH OUR GARDENING AND NUTRITION WORKSHOPS;-DESIGNED, BUILT, AND MAINTAINED 34 COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL GARDENS AND 13 COMMUNITY GARDENS; AND-TRANSFORMED NEARLY 22,000 SQUARE FEET INTO ECOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE LANDSCAPES.
