THE MISSION OF VEGGIE RESCUE IS TO IMPROVE THE NUTRITION AND QUALITY OF LIFE FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH FOOD INSECURITY BY PROVIDING THEM WITH HEALTHY, LOCAL PRODUCE AND HIGH-QUALITY PREPARED FOOD & TO WORK WITH FARMERS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES TO REDUCE FOOD WASTE

IN 2021, WE RECOVERED 550,000 POUNDS OF FRESH, LOCALLY GROWN PRODUCE AND HIGH-QUALITY PREPARED FOOD THAT WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE GONE TO WASTE, AND DELIVERED IT TO COMMUNITY KITCHENS, SHELTERS, FOOD PANTRIES, SENIOR CENTERS AND YOUTH PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT SANTA BARBARA COUNTY WHO ARE FEEDING PEOPLE LIVING WITH FOOD INSECURITY. THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF $962,500 WORTH OF FOOD, OR 458,343 MEALS. THE REDUCTION IN FOOD WASTE ALSO ACCOUNTS FOR AVOIDANCE OF 114.37 PARTS PER MILLION OF CO2, WHICH EQUATES TO THE ANNUAL EMISSIONS OF 25 CARS.
