FAMILY PLANNING AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH IN WEST AFRICA: THIS PROGRAM BUILDS ON A PRIOR GRANT FROM THE WILLIAM AND FLORA HEWLETT FOUNDATION; ITS PRIMARY PURPOSE WAS TO ENGAGE HIGH-LEVEL RELIGIOUS LEADERS IN THE DRIVE TO INCREASE FAMILY PLANNING UPTAKE AND PROMOTE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH. THIS GRANT FOCUSES MORE CLOSELY ON THREE AREAS: POSSIBILITIES FOR WORKING WITH RELIGIOUS NETWORKS TO SUPPORT FAMILY HEALTH AND FAMILY PLANNING AT A REGIONAL LEVEL (I.E., BEYOND SENEGAL); THE IMPORTANCE OF PURSUING DIALOGUE AND ACTION AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL WITHIN SENEGAL, ENGAGING THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS; AND THE NEED TO ADDRESS SENSITIVITIES LINKED TO SOME FUNDAMENTALIST MUSLIM RELIGIOUS VOICES WITHIN SENEGAL THAT ACTIVELY OPPOSE FAMILY PLANNING.


BANGLADESH RELIGIOUS DIMENSIONS OF DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL COHESION: THIS PROGRAM BUILDS ON THE PREVIOUS BANGLADESH PROGRAM, EXPANDING THE SCOPE TO ENSURE THAT THE INITIATIVES ARE DEEPENED, SUSTAINED, AND ADAPTED, AND RESPOND TO EMERGING CHALLENGES THAT BANGLADESH CONFRONTS. UNDERLYING GOALS ARE TO ADDRESS RISING TENSIONS WITHIN BANGLADESH SOCIETY AND TO SITUATE BOTH UNDERSTANDING AND RESPONSE IN NATIONAL AND REGIONAL SETTINGS. AUDIENCES INCLUDE CURRENT AND FUTURE POLICY ACTORS FROM BOTH SECULAR AND RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES. THE SCOPE IS BANGLADESH CENTERED BUT SET IN A REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT, EXPLORING TOPICS WITH SIGNIFICANT BUT OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD SOCIAL AND RELIGIOUS DYNAMICS.


RELIGIONS FOR PEACE: WFDD AGREED TO CONDUCT A SERIES OF ROUNDTABLES ON FOUR KEY TOPICS: YOUTH ENGAGEMENT, ENVIRONMENT, GENDER, AND CORRUPTION, AND RESEARCH AND WRITE RELATED POLICY BRIEFS.
