THE HORIZON INSTITUTE IS A CALIFORNIA-BASED THINK TANK AND PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH ORGANIZATION, DEDICATED TO BUILDING AN ECONOMY THAT PUTS PEOPLE FIRST. THE INSTITUTE WORKS TO FOSTER INFORMED DISCUSSION AND PROMOTE IDEAS

IN AUGUST 2014, HORIZON INSTITUTE SPONSORED THREE PROJECTS IN EL SALVADOR. A DELEGATION OF AMERICAN CHILDREN AND ADULTS TRAVELED TO EL SALVADOR. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CIS - CENTRO DE INTERCAMBIO Y SOLIDARIDAD. THE PROJECTS WERE DONE BY SIXTEEN VOLUNTEERS FROM CALIFORNIA WHO PAID FOR THEIR OWN TRAVEL EXPENSES AND RAISED FUNDS FOR MOST OF THESE PROJECTS. THESE PROJECTS WERE: 1) ESTABLISHED A WOMEN'S CO-OP BUSINESS TO SUSTAIN THEIR COMMUNITY CONSISTING OF AN INDIGO DYING BUSINESS. 2) ESTABLISHED A 4 LAPTOP COMPUTER LAB, WHICH WAS PAINTED, EQUIPPED WITH COLOR PRINTERS, INK CARTRIDGES, REALMS OF PAPER AND 2 YEARS WIFI. THE COMPUTER LAB IS NOW BENEFITING THE WOMEN'S CO-OP AND THEIR CHILDREN IN ISLA LA TASAJERA, LA PAZ. 3) BUILT A SHELTER AND VEGETABLE GARDEN IN A CHILD CARE CENTER IN LA LIBERTAD, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SALEF AND COOPERATIVE AND COMMUNAL DEVELOPMENT OF EL SALVADOR (CORDES).
