THE PROJECT CREATE ARTS CENTER, OPENED IN 2015, IS FULL OF ART SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT, COMPUTERS WITH CREATIVE DESIGN SOFTWARE, STATE-OF-THE-ART AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT, AND A TALENTED STAFF OF EXPERIENCED TEACHING ARTISTS AND ART THERAPISTS. MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIO CLASSES IN VISUAL, PERFORMING AND DIGITAL MEDIA ARTS ARE PROVIDED DAILY, YEAR-ROUND IN THREE SEMESTERS. EACH DAY, AFTER SCHOOL AND BEFORE PROJECT CREATE CLASSES BEGIN, WE HOST AN OPEN STUDIO WHERE EXPERIENCED ARTS EDUCATORS LEAD PARTICIPANTS IN AN ACCEPTING AND CREATIVE ARTISTIC ENVIRONMENT. STUDENTS CAN PARTICIPATE IN AS MANY AFTER-SCHOOL CLASSES AS THEY CHOOSE; ALL CLASSES ARE FREE.
PROJECT CREATE DELIVERS ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMING IN OUR COMMUNITY, INCLUDING TRAINING, EXHIBITIONS AND PERFORMANCES.
SINCE 1994, PROJECT CREATE HAS PROVIDED WEEKLY MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTS EDUCATION CLASSES TAUGHT BY EXPERIENCED TEACHING ARTISTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE SERVICES TO CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS AND POVERTY. PARTNERS INCLUDE HOUSING PROVIDERS, LOW-INCOME/SECTION 8 HOUSING, COMMUNITY CENTERS, DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION, DC PUBLIC LIBRARIES, DC PUBLIC AND PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS, MENTORSHIP ORGANIZATIONS, AND MORE.
TWO SATURDAYS A MONTH, LOCAL FAMILIES ENGAGE IN ARTISTIC EXPLORATION, ART-MAKING AND CREATIVE PLAY AT PROJECT CREATE FAMILY ART DAY. FOR TWO HOURS ON SATURDAYS, PROJECT CREATE SERVES TWO (OR THREE) GENERATIONS OF FAMILY MEMBERS, FROM INFANTS TO GRANDMOTHERS, ALL OF WHOM ENJOY THE CHANCE TO CREATE ART IN COMMUNITY. LED BY AN ART THERAPIST, EACH SATURDAY SESSION HIGHLIGHTS A DIFFERENT TEACHING ARTIST SHARING THEIR SKILLS IN A WIDE VARIETY OF ARTISTIC DISCIPLINES. DURING THIS ALL-AGES COMMUNITY CENTERED PROGRAM AT THE PROJECT CREATE ARTS CENTER, FAMILIES CAN CREATE ART PROJECTS AND ENJOY REFRESHMENTS. THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
