TO SUSTAIN AND ADVANCE THE UNIQUE AND VITAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND PROGRAMS OF SOUTHWEST METRO INTERMEDIATE DISTRICT 288, AN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM WHERE PEOPLE REGISTER FOR OPPORTUNITY AND HOPE, NOT JUST RECEIVE AN EDUCATION.

THE SOUTHWEST METRO EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION IS A FISCAL SPONSOR FOR GOOD TO GO KIDS (GTGK) AND GOOD TO MOVE (GTM). GTGK IS A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES WEEKEND MEALS IN BACKPACKS FOR KIDS IN NEED. THE PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGHS SCHOOL STUDENTS IN SCOTT COUNTY AND THE SOUTHWEST METRO HIGH SCHOOL LOCATED AT 401 EAST 4TH STREET IN CHASKA, MINNESOTA. THIS PROGRAM SERVES CHILDREN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 12TH GRADE. GTM PROVIDES YOGA AND OTHER MEDITATIVE EXERCISES TO HELP CHILDREN IN SCOTT COUNTY AND AT THE SOUTHWEST METRO DISTRICT MAIN CAMPUS TO DEVELOP SKILLS THROUGH EXERCISE TO HELP WITH STRESS AND ANXIETY, AS WELL AS THEIR MENTAL HEALTH.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: THE SOUTHWEST METRO EDUCATIONAL FOUNDTAION OFFERS A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, TO STUDENTS OF THE SOTHWEST METRO INTERMEDIATE DISTRICT 288. THE MAJORITY OF STUDENTS WOULD NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THEIR HOME DISTRICTS, THUS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FOUNDATION'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PROVIDED TO STUDENTS GOING INTO A VARIETY OF PROFESSIONS THAT DO NOT OFTEN REQUIRE A 4 YEAR COLLEGE DEGREE. MANY OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDED ARE FOR TRADE SCHOOLS AND 2 YEAR CERTIFICATIONS.
GRANT PROGRAM: THE SOUTHWEST METRO EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SPONSORS VARIOUS ACTIVITIES AT THE SOUTHWEST METRO INTERMEDIATE DISTRICT 288. MANY OF THE STUDENTS HAVE FELT OUTCAST AND. AT TIMES, BULLIED BY OTHER STUDENTS IN THEIR FORMER SCHOOL SETTING, THUS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FOUNDATION'S GRANT/SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. GRANTS SUPPORT ACTIVITIES WITH THE STAFF AT THE SOUTHWEST METRO INTERMEDIATE DISTRICT HELP BRING STUDENTS TOGETHER, BUILD COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS PROVIDE INCENTIVES TO STAY IN SCHOOL AND ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE STUDENT SERVICES PROJECTS, THANKSGIVING COMMUNITY DINNER, TEACHER APPRECIATION, KICK-BALL TOURNAMENT, PHOTOWEEN (SUPPORTS DISTRICT'S COSMETOLOGY AND PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAMS) AND STUDENT INCENTIVE PROGRAMS.
