THE MISSION IS TO ADVANCE EDUCATIONAL AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR LAO PEOPLE AND STRENGTHEN THEIR CONNECTION TO LAO CULTURE AND TRADITIONAL VALUES.

Part 3 - Line 4a

HEALTH EDUCATION AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS REACH SENIORS WITH IMPORTANT PREVENTIVE HEALTH INFORMATION. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE EXERCISE (TAI-CHI QUAN-MOVING FOR A BETTER BALANCE). THE CULTURALLY-TAILORED MEALS PROGRAM SERVED 105 CLIENTS A TOTAL OF 8,250 MEALS HOME-DELIVERED BY VAN AND CONGREGANT DINING AT THE CENTER. IT PROMOTES GOOD HEALTH, IMPROVES NUTRITION STATUS, AND INCREASES SOCIALIZATION. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES WE OFFER INCLUDE ETHNIC DANCE, ELDER'S WISDOM (ELDER CIRCLE), PICNICS, FIELD TRIPS, GARDEN, SNAP, AND SOCIALIZE WITH OTHERS. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS OFFER ENGLISH LANGUAGE, BASIC COMPUTER USE, AND CITIZENSHIP CLASSES.WITH THE DEMENTIA PROGRAM WE PROVIDED 1,110 INFORMATION MATERIALS. THE HEALTH ED PROGRAM SERVED 95. THERE WERE TWO PARTICIPANTS IN ADULT DAY CARE. HOME RESPITE CARE WAS A NEW PROGRAM AND SERVED 7 CLIENTS WITH 252 UNITS OF SERVICE.


ASSISTED TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMS SERVED 108 CLIENTS WITH 2,290 RIDES. ASSISTED TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED FOR CLIENTS 60 AND OVER TO A VARIETY OF DESTINATIONS INCLUDING MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, FOOD SHELF, CONGREGATE DINING, DAILY ERRANDS, EDUCATIONAL CLASSES AND SOCIALIZATION


SPECIAL ACCESS PROGRAMS PROVIDE ADVOCACY TO ACCESS DAILY NEEDED SERVICES IN A TIMELY MANNER AND ENSURE FAIR TREATMENT FROM COMMUNITY-BASED AND GOVERNMENT RESOURCES SUCH AS: LEGAL, HEALTHCARE, SNAP, HOUSING, SOCIAL SERVICES PROVIDERS. MANY LAO AND HMONG SENIORS MAY NOT KNOW WHERE TO FIND HELP FOR ISSUES THAT THEY FACE. THE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ARE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE CULTURAL CONTEXT OF A PROBLEM AND CAN ASSIST INDIVIDUAL SENIORS IN EXPRESSING THEIR NEEDS. SPECIAL ACCESS REACHED 121 CLIENTS WITH 616 INDIVIDUAL SERVICES.
