OUR WORK IMPROVES THE PHYSICAL SPACES OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THOSE LIVING IN AND AROUND THE LYNDALE NEIGHBORHOOD. WITH MORE THAN 7,400 PEOPLE, LYNDALE IS ONE OF THE MOST DIVERSE NEIGHBORHOODS IN MINNESOTA. LOCATED IN THE HEART OF SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS, OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS COMPRISED OF PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE, ALL INCOMES, AND ALL PLACES OF ORIGIN ALL OVER THE PLANET. IN 2022, OUR WORK CONTRIBUTED TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BY: PROVIDING APPROXIMATELY 11,800 HOURS OF FREE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ADULT BASIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTION TO OVER 200 NEW MINNESOTANS AT 23 COMMUNITY LOCATIONS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. BRINGING TOGETHER NEIGHBORS BY HOSTING MONTHLY COMMUNITY MEETINGS REGARDING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS, POLICING PRACTICES, AND ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. IMPROVING SAFETY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD THROUGH THE ORGANIZATION OF THE LYNDALE WALKERS NEIGHBORHOOD PATROL. FACILITATING MEETINGS REGARDING NEW PARK AMENITIES COMING TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD. WELCOMED A NEW EXTENDED STAY HOMELESS HOMELESS SHELTER TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND HELPED SET UP TOURS, INFORMATION SESSIONS, AND OPEN COMMUNICATIONS WITH NEIGHBORS. COMMUNICATING IMPORTANT HAPPENINGS THROUGH A BI-LINGUAL PRINTED HANDOUT CALLED THE SOUTH NICOLLET NEWS AND VIA OUR WEEKLY NEIGHBORHOOD EMAIL LIST AND ON OUR WEBSITE, WWW.LYNDALE.ORG. BUILDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD BY ADMINISTERING A BUSINESS FAADE GRANT. ENGAGING MORE THAN 100 ACTIVE VOLUNTEERS IN VARIOUS COMMUNITY BUILDING PROJECTS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, INCLUDING OVER 1200 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER TEACHING WITH ADULT ENGLISH LEARNERS. SERVING AS A COMMUNICATION CONDUIT BETWEEN NEIGHBORS, DEVELOPERS AND THE CITY GOVERNMENT ON IMPORTANT LAND ACQUISITIONS AND ZONING CHANGES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. ENSURING FOOD SECURITY TO THOSE IN NEED BY DONATING LAND TO MASTER GARDENERS TO GROW OVER 300 POUNDS OF FOOD FOR A LOCAL FOOD SHELF.
