TO HELP PEOPLE GAIN THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND CONFIDENCE TO THRIVE IN DIVERSE COMMUNITIES.

HOUSING STABILITY: WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL OR FAMILY FACES A SITUATION THAT PUTS THEM AT RISK FOR HOMELESSNESS, NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE WILL WORK TO HELP FIGURE OUT A SOLUTION TO KEEP THEM SHELTERED, THIS INCLUDES HELPING WITH RENTAL ASSISTANCE, DAMAGE DEPOSITS, UTILITIES AND OTHER HOUSING-RELATED EXPENSES. IN FY22 THE HOUSING STABILITY PROGRAM SERVED 4,394 INDIVIDUALS AND 3,042 FAMILIES. THE PROGRAM ALSO HELPED 121 FAMILIES HELP AVOID EVICTION BY ASSISTING FAMILIES INVOLVED IN HOUSING COURT. WE SURVEYED A SAMPLE OF PARTICIPANTS SIX MONTHS AFTER RECEIVING SERVICES AND 77% REPORTED THEY MAINTAINED HOUSING STABILITY.


FOOD SUPPORT: OUR TWO FOOD MARKETS AND FRESH PRODUCE DISTRIBUTIONS ARE A CORNERSTONE FOR STRUGGLING FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS ACROSS SAINT PAUL. THE FOOD SUPPORT PROGRAM AT NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE PROVIDES PARTICIPANTS OF ALL AGES WITH ACCESS, NOT ONLY TO NUTRITIOUS FOOD, BUT ALSO HELPS PARTICIPANTS TO GET SIGNED UP TO RECEIVE ADDITIONAL GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE IF NEEDED. IN FY22, OUR FOOD SUPPORT PROGRAM DISTRIBUTED 807,574 POUNDS OF FOOD TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. OUR FOOD SUPPORT TEAM HELPED SCREEN 382 INDIVIDUALS FOR SNAP ELIGIBILITY. WE WORK WITH PEOPLE WITH VARYING LEVELS OF NEED IN OUR FOOD MARKETS, WITH SOME PARTICIPANTS VISITING WEEKLY OR EVEN MULTIPLE TIMES PER WEEK TO PARTICIPANTS WHO ONLY COME IN OCCASIONALLY OR AS NEEDED. NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE CONTINUOUSLY WORKS TO END HUNGER IN ST. PAUL.


YOUTH PROGRAM:NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE PROVIDES FOCUSED YOUTH LITERACY PROGRAMMING TO STUDENTS IN VARIOUS SCHOOL SYSTEMS ACROSS ST. PAUL. IN FY22, 101 STUDENTS RECEIVED SUPPORT, WITH 74% OF YOUTH INCREASING THEIR FLUENCY AND COMPREHENSION READING SKILLS AFTER PRE/POST TESTING. OUR YOUTH LITERACY TEACHERS WORKED TO FIND FUN AND EXCITING WAYS TO KEEP STUDENTS ENGAGED. ONE OF THE EVENTS THAT WAS A BIG SUCCESS IS OUR BINGO FOR BOOKS EVENT, WHERE WE HAVE SNACKS, GAMES AND BINGO WHERE EACH STUDENT WALKS AWAY WITH A BOOK OF THEIR CHOICE. WE ALSO PROVIDE ADULT EDUCATION AT NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE. ADULT EDUCATION IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE EDUCATION TO ADULTS (AGES 16+) WITH THE GOAL OF HELPING LEARNERS GAIN THE SKILLS TO PURSUE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY. INDIVIDUALS CAN TAKE CLASSES ON ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL), GED, COMPUTER CLASSES, U.S. CITIZENSHIP, JOB TRAININGS, AND OTHER TRAININGS FOR ADULTS BOTH ONLINE AND IN-PERSON. IN FY22 THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 525 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CLASSES AT NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE, WITH 288 COMPLETING 12 HOURS OF CLASS TIME OR MORE.
