PROFS IS NOT A UNION, BUT DOES ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF UW-MADISON FACULTY BEFORE STATE LEGISLATORS, THE GOVERNOR, THE BOARD OF REGENTS, MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND THE PUBLIC. PROFS WORKS ON BEHALF OF THE FACULTY TO PROTECT AND IMPROVE COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION; FACULTY GOVERNANCE; PROTECTION OF TENURE; STATE SUPPORT FOR THE UNIVERSITYS OPERATING BUDGET; NEW BUILDINGS AND MAINTENANCE; FEDERAL SUPPORT FOR RESEARCH; AND RETIREMENT BENEFITS.
