Part 3

WORDSMITH PRODUCTIONS IS A SMALL ARTS AND LITERACY NONPROFIT THAT HAD BEEN LOCATED IN THE CALIFORNIA MOJAVE HIGH DESERT SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2013. WE RELOCATED TO LOS ANGELES IN APRIL 2020. DURING THIS PAST FISCAL YEAR, WE CONTINUED TO OFFER OUR ADULT LITERACY SERVICES PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC. WE ALSO PRODUCE AN ANNUAL BOOK FESTIVAL. WE PRODUCED THE FOURTH ANNUAL HIGH DESERT BOOK FESTIVAL ON OCTOBER 12, 2019 AT THE HESPERIA CIVIC PLAZA PARK IN HESPERIA, CALIFORNIA. THE FESTIVAL WAS HELD WITH THE CO-SPONSORSHIP OF THE HESPERIA PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND THE CITY OF HESPERIA. OUR BOOK FESTIVAL CONSISTED OF THE USUAL SET UP OF AUTHORS WHO HAD REGISTERED FOR THE EVENT TO SELL THEIR BOOKS, FREE POETRY READINGS AND LITERARY PRESENTATIONS AND HUNDREDS OF ATTENDEES AS IT WAS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. OUR AUTHORS CAME FROM SEVERAL CALIFORNIA CITIES AND OTHER STATES TO TAKE PART IN THE FESTIVAL. WE ALSO PROVIDED FREE BOOTHS TO SOME NONPROFITS. OUR NONPROFIT RECEIVED A $5,000 CALIFORNIA HUMANITIES FOR ALL QUICK GRANT FOR OUR PROJECT "EXPLORING THE LITERATURE OF THE CALIFORNIA DESERTS." THAT GRANT SUPPORTED A VERY FOCUSED PART OF OUR BOOK FESTIVAL ON THIS SUBJECT. IT ALSO ALLOWED US TO PROVIDE A WRITING WORKSHOP AND ANOTHER SPEAKER AT THE HESPERIA LIBRARY ON OCTOBER. 11, 2019. ONE OF OUR SPEAKERS, JOHN SAUNDERS, CAME FROM AUSTRALIA. WE HAD BEGUN TO TAKE REGISTRATION FOR THE 2020 BOOK FESTIVAL, BUT WE WERE FORCED TO CANCEL DUE TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC. IN LIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC, THE ONE PROGRAM WE SUCCESSFULLY CREATED WAS A PARTNERSHIP WITH A SOCIAL SERVICES NONPROFIT IN LOS ANGELES TO PROVIDE ZOOM TUTORING TO LOW INCOME STUDENTS.
