WORLD SALMON COUNCILS SALMON WATCH PROGRAM INCORPORATES INNOVATIVE LEARNING ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO ENHANCE THE CRITICAL THINKING PROBLEM SOLVING AND EFFECTIVE DECISION-MAKING SKILLS OF STUDENTS HELPS ADDRESS THE NATURE DEFICIT THAT MANY OF OUR YOUTH EXPERIENCE AND GIVES KIDS CHANCE TO MAKE DIFFERENCE IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS AND LOCAL WATERSHEDS.

WE ENGAGED 2,709 STUDENTS, TEACHERS, VOLUNTEERS, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WITH THE SALMON WATCH CURRICULUM IN PERSON AND VIRTUALLY. A TOTAL OF 551 INDIVIDUALS ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED IN OUR FIELD TRIPS, WITH THE INVALUABLE SUPPORT OF 35 DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTING A CUMULATIVE TOTAL OF 280 VOLUNTEER HOURS. IN COLLABORATION WITH 12 CLASSES, WE SERVED A TOTAL OF 445 STUDENTS FROM THE PORTLAND AND VANCOUVER AREAS, WITH 46% OF THEM REPRESENTING STUDENTS OF COLOR AND 31% COMING FROM ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS.
