ROCK CREEK STATION STRICKER IS AN HISTORIC OREGON TRAIL SITE OWNED BY THE STATE OF IDAHO AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. PRESERVATION TWIN FALLS ALONG WITH TWO OTHER FOUNDATIONS HAVE BEEN PARTICIPATING IN RENOVATING AND UPGRADING THE SITE FOR PUBLIC ACCESS AND SCHOOL CHILDREN OF WHICH ABOUT 1,100 VISIT EACH YEAR. THIS YEAR WE FINISHED PAYING FOR A PAVILLION $46,199.39 CLASSROOM SIZE WITH MEDIA AND THE PURCHASE AND PLACEMENT OF FOURTEEN HIGHWAY SIGNS $1,575 ON THE TWIN FALLS HIGHWAY DISTRICT AND THE IDAHO DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS DIRECTING THE PUBLIC TO THE SITE.ROGERSON TWO ROOM SCHOOL HOUSE IS A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION WHICH OWNS A 1916 SCHOOL HOUSE IN A SMALL UNDERSERVED COMMUNITY OF ROGERSON, IDAHO. THE NON PROFIT HAS BEEN RENOVATING THE OLD SCHOOL BUILDING WHICH WILL BE USED AS A COMMUNITY CENTER AND THIS YEAR PRESERVATION TWIN FALLS CONTRIBUTED $8,019.98 TOWARDS THE WORK BEING DONE.GRAIN ELEVATORS - ONE OF OUR EARLY PROJECTS WAS THE PURCHASE OF 6 HISTORIC GRAIN ELEVATORS IN TWIN FALLS CITY WHICH ARE ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES. THIS YEAR WE REPLACED THE ROOF ON THE ELEVATORS FOR $44,570 AND REPLACED THE 14 FOOT BY 27 FOOT MURALS (2) WITH COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL MURALS FROM THE 1920'S.WENDELL CEMETERY CIVIL WAR SIGN AND CONFEDERATE TOMB STONE. JUSTIN VIPPERMAN, ONE OF OUR DIRECTORS, INFORMED US THAT THERE WERE 8 CIVIL WAR VETERANS BURIED IN THE WENDELL IDAHO CEMETERY, 7 UNION SOLDIERS AND 1 CONFERERATE SOLDIER. THIS IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL AS THAT COMMUNITY DID NOT BEGIN UNTIL 1905. OUR BOARD MEMBER RESEARCHED THEIR RECORDS AND ALL ACTUALLY FOUGHT IN BATTLES AND THEY LATER HOMESTEADED IN ANOTHER STATE EVENTUALLY COMING TO IDAHO TO BE NEAR THEIR RELATIVES. ALL HAD HEAD STONES BUT THE CONFEREDATE, BUT HIS GRAVE WAS MARKED. WE DESIGNED AND PLACED A SIGN IN THE CEMETERY TELLING EACH SOLDIERS STORY.TWIN FALLS COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM - TWIN FALLS PRESERVATION PROVIDED $1,000 TO STAFF TO ATTEND THE IDAHO EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE SPONSORED BY THE STATE OF IDAHO.AVENUES HISTORICAL DISTRICT WORKED ON CREATING A LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT WITH 309 HOMES INSIDE A NATIONAL DISTRICT SO THE OLDEST PROPERTIES IN TWIN FALLS ARE PROTECTED FROM FUTURE DEMOLITION.IIIN 2022 PRESERVATION TWIN FALLS PLANS TO PURCHASE 6.2 ACRES OF LAND AND A STRICKER HOUSE FROM 1919 TO EXPAND THE ROCK CREEK STATION-STRICKER PROJECT WITH THE INTENT TO SELL IT AT COST TO THE STATE OF IDAHO WHO WILL MAKE IT PART OF THE HISTORIC OREGON TRAIL SITE WHICH IS OWNED BY THE STATE OF IDAHO.
