THE LINKS, INC, A VOLUNTEER SERVICE ORGANIZATION, IS CONCERNED PRIMARILY WITH ENRICHING, SUSTAINING, AND INSURING THE IDENTITIES, CULTURE AND ECONOMIC SURVIVAL OF AFRICAN AMERICANS.

SERVICE TO YOUTH SCHOLARHIPS THE KALAMAZOO (MI) CHAPTER OF THE LINKS, INCORPORATED AWARDED $2000 SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE SPRING OF EACH YEAR TO TWO AREA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE RENEWABLE YEARLY FOR UP TO THREE YEARS OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDY, IF THE STUDENT MAINTAINS A 2.5 GPA. STUDENTS FROM BATTLE CREEK CENTRAL, KALAMAZOO CENTRAL, AND KALAMAZOO LOY NORRIX SCHOOLS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY IN THEIR SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL. DURING THIS REPORTING PERIOD A TOTAL OF $8,000 WAS AWARDED IN SCHOLARSHIPS.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DENTAL CARE DAY MORE THAN ONE THIRD OF KALAMAZOO RESIDENTS (ADULTS) ARE UNINSURED AND CANNOT AFFORD QUALITY DENTAL CARE. FURTHER, SOME AFICAN AMERICAN RESIDENTS EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT FINDING A DENTIST THAT TREATED THEM AND THEIR CHILDREN WITH RESPECT. THUS, THE KALAMAZOO (MI) CHAPTER OF THE LINKS, INCORPORATED FORMULATED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE KALAMAZOO FAMILY HEALTH CENTER TO SUPPORT THEIR DENTAL CARE PROGRAMING. WE DEVELOPED AN INTEGRATED PROGRAM IMPLEMENTED THROUGHOUT
SERVICES TO YOUTH AND THE ARTS THE SERVICE TO YOUTH FACET FOCUSED ON PROVIDING EDUCATION TO YOUTH REGARDING DENTAL HEALTH, EMOTIONAL WELLNESS, AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE DURING THE FAMILY HEALTH CENTERS BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT HELD IN AUGUST 2023. BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES WERE ALSO GIVEN OUT. THE ARTS FACET FOCUSED ON COLORING PICTURE CONTEST FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN; THE HHS FACET ASSISTED WITH PROMOTION AND SECURING THE MANY VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST WITH BOTH EVENTS
INTERNATIONAL TRENDS AND SERVICES AND NATIONAL TRENDS AND SERVICES THE KALAMAZOO (MI) CHAPTER OF THE LINKS INCORPORATED PROVIDES FUNDING FOR PURCHASING SEEDS FOR THE HENRY SSAGALA FARM IN KAMPALA UGANDA FARMING IS A KEY ECONOMIC FACTOR IN UGANDA AND URBAN FARMING ENSURES THAT FAMILIES HAVE A SUSTAINABLE QUALITY OF LIFE. THIS FUNDING HELPS TO MAINTAIN A CONSISTENT FOOD SUPPLY PROVIDE A MEANS TO PAY SCHOOL TUITION AND ECONOMIC STABILITY TO THOSE FAMILIES INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT. NATIONAL PROGRAMING INCLUDES THE PRINTING OF NON-PARTISAN VOTER EDUCATION MATERIALS.
