ADOPT A CHILDS SMILE PROGRAM - UTILIZES DONATIONS AND INKIND SERVICES OF LOCAL DENTISTS AND ORTHODONTISTS TO PROVIDE LOW AND NO COST DENTAL SERVICES TO CHILDREN IN MIDLAND COUNTY WHO HAVE DENTAL NEEDS WHICH CANNOT BE MET BY INSURANCE, MEDICAID OR PARENTAL RESOURCES.


CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION-A COUNTY-WIDE EFFORT FOCUSING ON THE PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE BY EDUCATING AND EMPOWERING CHILDREN AND ADULTS. PROGRAMS AS FOLLOWS: CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY - A COMMUNITY INITIATIVE TO DISTRIBUTE CAR SAFETY SEATS TO LOW INCOME MIDLAND COUNTY FAMILIES AND PROVIDE INSTRUCTION ON CORRECT USE. SAFE SLEEP-A COMMUNITY EFFORT TO DISTRIBUTE PACK N' PLAYS - SAFE SLEEP ENVIRONMENTS - TO LOW INCOME PARENTS AS WELL AS EDUCATION ON SAFE SLEEP PRACTICES. DARKNESS TO LIGHT-RAISES AWARENESS OF THE PREVALENCE AND CONSEQUENCES OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE. EDUCATES ADULTS ABOUT THE STEPS THEY CAN TAKE TO PREVENT AND RECOGNIZE THE ABUSE AS WELL AS HOW TO REACT RESPONSIBLY.


FORENSIC INTERVIEWER PROGRAM - DURING A CHILD ABUSE INVESTIGATION, A NATIONALLY TRAINED FORENSIC INTERVIEWER WORKS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM. THE INTERVIEWER GATHERS FACTS IN A SAFE, CHILD- FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE CHILD CAN TELL HIS/HER STORY IN HIS/HER OWN WORDS. THIS INTERVIEW DECREASES DUPLICATION OF SERVICES AND MULTIPLE INTERVIEWS, MINIMIZING ADDED TRAUMA TO THE CHILD DURING THE INVESTIGATION.
