THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS TO CONSERVE, CONNECT, AND RESTORE NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES TO SUSTAIN THE PEOPLE OF SOUTHWESTERN ILLINOIS.

CONSERVATION OF LAND AND WATER - PRESERVATION OF 9,700 ACRES OF LAND IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS FOR ECOLOGICAL, CULTURAL, RECREATIONAL, AND AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES. THE ORGANIZATION MANAGES AROUND 300 ACRES OF LAND AND HOLDS CONSERVATION EASEMENTS ON NEARLY 3,000 ACRES. THOUSANDS MORE ACRES HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED OR ASSISTED BY HEARTLANDS TO A GOVERNMENT PARTNER OR OTHER STEWARDS. RESILIENT COMMUNITIES - ASSISTANCE TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND COMMUNITY GROUPS WITH WATERSHED HEALTH, SUSTAINABLE PARKS AND RECREATION, SMART GROWTH CONSULTATION, AND OTHER NATURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE PROTECTION EFFORTS. ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATION - OVER 2,000 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER WORK ON NATURAL RESOURCES IN THE REGION, AS WELL AS HUNDREDS OF PARTICIPANTS IN OUTDOOR RECREATION AND ENGAGEMENT, SUCH AS HIKING CLUB, SELF-GUIDED AND GUIDED HIKES, PADDLE EXPERIENCES, AND WEBINARS.
