LIVING ROOMTHE LIVING ROOMS ARE LOCATED IN LAGRANGE, BROADVIEW, AND SUMMIT ILLINOIS. HEALTHCARE ALTERNATIVE SYSTEMS PROVIDES CLINICIANS AT THE BROADVIEW LOCATION. NAMI PROVIDES CLINICIANS AT LAGRANGE AND SUMMIT. THEY ARE OVERSEEN BY NAMI-METRO SUBURBAN AND PILLARS AND ARE CALM AND SAFE PLACES WHERE INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING AN INCREASE IN SYMPTOMS CAN GO FOR SUPPORT. THEY ARE A PROVEN ALTERNATIVE TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM, OFFERING SUPPORT FOR ADULTS COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE UPON ARRIVAL. GUESTS UNDERGO A BRIEF MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING BY A MASTERS LEVEL CLINICIAN TO ENSURE THAT THE LIVING ROOM IS THE BEST PLACE FOR THEIR SITUATION. FOLLOWING THAT INITIAL SCREENING A RECOVERY SUPPORT SPECIALIST WHO IS EXTENSIVELY TRAINED INDIVIDUAL LIVING WELL IN HIS/HER RECOVERY SPEAKS WITH THE GUEST ABOUT THEIR TRIGGERS, OBSTACLES TO RECOVERY, CONCERNS, SUPPORT AND HOPE. PRIOR TO LEAVING, A CLINICIAN CONDUCTS AN EXIT SCREENING TO ENSURE THE GUEST RECEIVED THE ASSISTANCE NEEDED. APPROXIMATELY 60% OF LIVING ROOM GUESTS RETURN FOR TREATMENT.


EDUCATION AND ADVOCACYNAMI-METRO SUBURBAN PROVIDES EDUCATION AND SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY MENTAL ILLNESS. TWELVE AND NINE WEEK CLASSES ARE OFFERED FOR BOTH FAMILY MEMBERS AND INDIVIDUALS TO LEARN ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS, MEDICATION, COPING SKILLS AND EMPLOYMENT. NAMI'S SCHOOL PROGRAM - TEACHES STUDENTS ABOUT THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF MENTAL ILLNESS, THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DETECTION AND TREATMENT, AND HOW TO HELP A FRIEND. QUARTERLY COMMUNITY SERIES ARE HELD TO EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ON MENTAL ILLNESS ISSUES TO HELP AMELIORATE THE STIGMA ASSOCIATED WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. NAMI ALSO PROVIDES MENTAL ILLNESS EDUCATION TO POLICE, FAITH BASED ORGANIZATIONS AND LIBRARIES. ABOUT 800 CLASSES WERE OFFERED AND ABOUT 13,000 STUDENTS WERE SERVED.


DROP-IN CENTERNAMI'S DROP-IN CENTER IS OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK FOR ADULT MENTAL HEALTH CONSUMERS. THE PROGRAMMING STRIVES TO REINTEGRATE THE WHOLE "PERSON" BACK INTO THE COMMUNITY BY UTILIZING A PROCESS WHERE EACH CLIENT IS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITIES TO BUILD SOCIAL AND EMPLOYMENT SKILLS VITAL TO A FULL RECOVERY FROM MENTAL ILLNESS. THE CENTER SERVES 1,300 UNDUPLICATED PERSONS.
