Part 3 - Line 4a

THROUGH THE PRESERVATION OF LAND, THE LAND CONSERVANCY OF MCHENRY COUNTY, INC. HELPS PRESERVE THE NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE COUNTY, OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE TO OBSERVE AND STUDY NATURE, AND PROVIDES HABITAT FOR NATIVE PLANTS AND ANIMALS. THE MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED PRIMARILY BY ACCEPTING DONATED CONSERVATION EASEMENTS, A STRATEGY BY WHICH THE PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNERS RETAIN OWNERSHIP OF THEIR LAND, BUT DONATE THE DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS TO THE ORGANIZATION. THE ORGANIZATION HAS RECEIVED 93 DONATED CONSERVATION EASEMENTS PRESERVING 2,187 ACRES OF LAND SINCE IT BEGAN OPERATIONS. THE ORGANIZATION OWNS 655.85 ACRES OF LAND.
