PCEC WORKS WITH OUR COMMUNITY TO SAFEGUARD THE LAND, WATER, WILDLIFE, AND PEOPLE OF YELLOWSTONE'S NORTHERN GATEWAY THROUGH GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING AND COMMUNITY ADVOCACY.

COMMUNITY PLANNING PCEC'S COMMUNITY PLANNING INITIATIVES INCLUDE ADVOCACY FOR COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING THAT GUIDES DEVELOPMENT TO CREATE VIBRANT, RESILIENT AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES AND PRESERVE OPEN LAND AND WILDLIFE HABITAT. WITH PCEC'S ENGAGEMENT IN PLANNING IN RECENT YEARS, WE'VE CREATED SOME OF THE STRONGEST LOCAL GROWTH POLICIES IN THE STATE AT BOTH THE COUNTY AND CITY LEVEL. THESE POLICIES ARE LEADING TO PLAN UPDATES SUCH AS THE DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN, A HOUSING ACTION PLAN AND THE TRAILS AND ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN. CURRENT PRIORITIES INCLUDE COUNTY-WIDE LAND-USE PLANNING AND ZONING,AFFORDABLE HOUSING POLICIES, IMPROVING WALKING AND BIKING TRANSPORTATION INFASTRUCTURE AND PLANTING TREES IN PUBLIC SPACES.


WILDLANDS; HABITAT, WATER AND WILDLIFE PCEC IS THE LOCAL CONSERVATION LEADER WORKING TO PROTECT HABITAT CONNECTIVITY AND OPEN LAND, CLEAN AND FREE FLOWING WATERWAYS, AND ICONIC WILDLIFE SPECIES IN THIS ONE-OF-A-KIND ECOSYSTEM ON THE NORTHERN BORDER OF YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK. OUR NATIONALLY SIGNIFICANT CAMPAIGNS HAVE PERMANENTLY PROTECTED 30,000 ACRES OF PULIC LAND FROM HARD ROCK MINING AND PREVENTED 17,300 ACRES OF PUBLIC LAND FROM BEING LEASED BY OIL AND GAS COMPANIES NEAR LIVINGSTON AND IN THE FOOTHILLS OF THE ABSAROKA BEARTOOTH WILDERNESS. WE ALSO ADVOCATE FOR PROACTIVE WILDLAND AND WATERWAY PROTECTIONS THROUGH ENGAGEMENT AND COLLABORATION WITH DIVERSE COMMUNITY GROUPS AND AGENCIES.


CONSERVATION LEADERSHIP FUNDAMENTAL TO OUR THEORY OF CHANGE, PCEC ENGAGES AND DEVELOPS DIVERSE CONSERVATION LEADERS IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT INFLUENCE POLICY AT ALL LEVELS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND GOVERNMENT. PCEC'S SUCESSFUL HIGH SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS, ENGAGEMENT OF AMERICORPS AND OTHER COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS CONTINUES TO DEVELOP NEW LEADERS. MANY OF THESE LEADERS NOW SERVE ON CITY AND COUNTY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES, AND HAVE PARTICIPATED IN INITIATIVES LIKE YELLOWSTONE GATEWAY 30K, COMPOSTING AT THE FARMERS' MARKET, THE PARADISE PLEDGE, L-TOWN SOUP, ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION COALITION, TRAIL STEWARDSHIP ACTIVITES, AND MORE.
