PARKVIEW HEALTH SYSTEM, INC. IS A CHARITABLE, NOT-FOR-PROFIT, COMMUNITY-OWNED HEALTH SYSTEM. IT WAS INCORPORATED IN MAY 1995 AND NOW SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING HOSPITALS: PARKVIEW HOSPITAL, INC.; COMMUNITY HOSPITAL OF LAGRANGE COUNTY, INC.; COMMUNITY HOSPITAL OF NOBLE COUNTY, INC.; DEKALB MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, INC.; HUNTINGTON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, INC.; PARKVIEW WABASH HOSPITAL, INC.; WHITLEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, INC.; PARK CENTER, INC.; AS WELL AS 60 PERCENT OWNERSHIP IN THE JOINT VENTURE OF ORTHOPEDIC HOSPITAL AT PARKVIEW NORTH, LLC. PARKVIEW HEALTH OFFERS AN ARRAY OF SPECIALTY SERVICES TO ITS SERVICE AREA WHICH INCLUDE A VERIFIED LEVEL II ADULT AND PEDIATRIC TRAUMA CENTER, A HEART INSTITUTE, A CERTIFIED COMPREHENSIVE STROKE CENTER, WOMEN'S & CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, OUTPATIENT SERVICE CENTER, A BEHAVIORAL HEALTH INSTITUTE, AND CANCER INSTITUTE. PARKVIEW REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER IS UNDERGOING EXPANSION, ADDING A SOUTH TOWER IN RESPONSE TO A GROWING NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO CONTINUE TO CHOOSE PARKVIEW AS THEIR PREFERRED PROVIDER FOR CARE. THIS $98 MILLION EXPANSION IS NECESSARY AS PARKVIEW HOSPITAL, INC. HAD INSUFFICIENT INPATIENT BED CAPACITY TO MEET THE GROWING DEMAND. THIS SURPLUS WILL NOT ONLY ALLOW FOR FUTURE EXPANSION PLANS BUT WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT PROJECTED INPATIENT DEMAND AND AMBULATORY CARE GROWTH.THE EXPANSION CONSISTS OF CONSTRUCTION OF A SIX-STORY, 168,000-SQUARE-FOOT MEDICAL TOWER. THE NEW SOUTH TOWER WILL ALLOW THE HOSPITAL TO ADD 120 NEW INPATIENT BEDS AND 100 NEW CLINICAL POSITIONS, WITH ROUGHLY 63,000 SQUARE FEET OF ADDITIONAL SPACE. CURRENTLY IN OPERATION ARE THE SIXTH FLOOR (MEDICAL/SURGICAL AND PROGRESSIVE CARE), FIFTH FLOOR (GI/GU/GYN), FOURTH FLOOR (ONCOLOGY), THIRD FLOOR (3 MEDICAL), SECOND FLOOR (NEUROLOGY), FIRST FLOOR (A NEW EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT ENTRANCE AND A PATIENT DISCHARGE LOUNGE) AND THE LOWER LEVEL (MAINTENANCE AREAS).PARKVIEW HEALTH SYSTEM, INC. EMPLOYS MORE THAN 13,000 FULL- AND PART-TIME CO-WORKERS. THIS INCLUDES PARKVIEW PHYSICIANS GROUP (PPG) WHICH CONSIST OF 986 PROVIDERS REPRESENTING MORE THAN 40 SPECIALTIES IN MORE THAN 200 LOCATIONS ACROSS NORTHEAST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO. OF THE 986 PROVIDERS, 554 OF THEM ARE PRIMARY AND SPECIALTY CARE PHYSICIANS WITH THE REMAINING 432 BEING ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDERS. THESE PROFESSIONALS PROVIDE CARE TO RESIDENTS THROUGHOUT NORTHEAST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY FOR THOSE SERVICES. IN 2021, 95 PHYSICIANS AND 76 ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDERS WERE RECRUITED, SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING THE SYSTEM'S ABILITY TO MEET LOCAL HEALTH NEEDS. PARKVIEW HEALTH EMPLOYS FOUR FULL-TIME PHYSICIAN RECRUITERS AND ONE FULL-TIME SOURCING SPECIALIST WHOSE TIME IS DEVOTED SOLELY TO RECRUITING PHYSICIANS AND ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDERS. ALL PHYSICIAN RECRUITMENT ACTIVITY IS BASED ON A PHYSICIAN NEEDS ASSESSMENT, BOARD-APPROVED STRATEGIC PLAN AND THE OVERSIGHT OF THE COMPLIANCE COMMITTEE OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. IN SUPPORTING THE WORK OF PARKVIEW HEALTH SYSTEM, INC. THE MIRRO RESEARCH AND INNOVATION CENTER, LOCATED ON THE CAMPUS OF PARKVIEW REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, PROVIDES WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION FOR PARKVIEW CO-WORKERS, PHYSICIANS AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS IN CUTTING-EDGE MEDICAL SIMULATION CLASSROOMS AND TRAINING LABORATORIES MODELED AFTER CURRENT OPERATING ROOMS, EXAM ROOMS, PATIENT ROOMS AND AMBULANCES. IN ADDITION TO HOSPITAL-RELATED INITIATIVES, THE MIRRO RESEARCH AND INNOVATION CENTER ENGAGES IN PROJECTS RELATED TO COMMUNITY HEALTH THROUGH ITS HEALTH SERVICES AND INFORMATICS RESEARCH TEAM. THE HEALTH SERVICES AND INFORMATICS RESEARCH TEAM IS COMPRISED OF INTERDISCIPLINARY SCIENTISTS, PROJECT MANAGERS AND USER-EXPERIENCE SPECIALISTS. THIS TEAM WORKS ON A BROAD ARRAY OF PROJECTS, INCLUDING INVESTIGATOR-INITIATED RESEARCH, PROGRAM EVALUATION, PILOT STUDIES, COMMUNITY SURVEY STUDIES AND USER-EXPERIENCE PROJECTS THAT IMPROVE THE USABILITY OF HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGIES. SOME EXAMPLES OF THEIR PROJECTS AND FOCUS AREAS INCLUDE YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH, INNOVATIVE PRACTICE MODEL EVALUATION, SCREENING FOR AND ADDRESSING SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH, AND SUPPORTING PEOPLE LIVING WITH CHRONIC DISEASE. MOST OF THE TEAM'S WORK HAS RESULTED IN PEER-REVIEWED PUBLICATIONS IN JOURNALS, PRESENTATIONS AT TOP-TIER SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCES, AND DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION TO OUR LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO INFLUENCE PUBLIC HEALTH POLICY. THE YEAR OF 2021 PRESENTED PARKVIEW HEALTH SYSTEM, INC. WITH MANY NEW CHALLENGES WITH THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. PARKVIEW HOSPITAL, INC. WAS AT THE CENTER OF THIS EFFORT ALONG WITH PARKVIEW HEALTH SYSTEM, INC., TREATING 70% OF THE REGIONS TOTAL COVID-19 PATIENT POPULATION. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE HEALTH SYSTEM'S GROWTH AND PREPAREDNESS FOR SUCH TRYING TIMES, PARKVIEW WAS ABLE TO STEP UP AND OFFER MANY ADDITIONAL RESOURCES TO THE COMMUNITY. AS THE REGION'S LARGEST EMPLOYER, PARKVIEW HEALTH UNDERSTANDS THE COMPLEXITY OF MAINTAINING NORMAL BUSINESS OPERATIONS DURING A PANDEMIC. PARKVIEW ALSO ESTABLISHED TWO TEMPORARY COMMUNITY VACCINE CLINICS AVAILABLE AT THE PARKVIEW MIRRO CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND INNOVATION AND AT THE FIRST CARE CLINIC ON NEW VISION DRIVE. THESE CLINICS WERE SET UP WITH AREAS FOR SYMPTOM SCREENING, REGISTRATION, VACCINATION, AND POST-INJECTION OBSERVATION. TOGETHER, THESE LOCATIONS DELIVERED A TOTAL OF 155,202 VACCINES. HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED BY THE COLLEGE OF HEALTHCARE INFORMATION MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVES (CHIME) AS ONE OF HEALTHCARE'S MOST WIRED HEALTH SYSTEMS.
