FOR OVER 30 YEARS CLPA HAS BEEN STEWARDING AKRON'S MUSTILL PROPERTIES AND GROUNDS. THE PARK AND MUSEUM ARE LOCATED IN EARLY AKRON'S INDUSTRIAL CORRIDOR. CLPA TAKES GREAT PRIDE IN MAINTAINING THE IMPORTANT HISTORY OF AKRON'S INDUSTRIAL PAST. THE CASCADE LOCKS PARK AND MUSTILL STORE ARE IMPORTANT AND SIGNIFICANT LINKS TO AKRON'S HISTORY. OUR MUSEUM AND INTERPRETIVE DISPLAYS LOCATED THROUGHOUT THE PARK, PROVIDE GUESTS WITH INSIGHT TO CANAL LIFE AND THE ROLE THIS AREA PLAYED IN THE BIRTH AND SUCCESS OF AKRON EARLY. CLPA ALSO SERVES TO PROMOTE THE CASCADE VALLEY, WE PLAY AN ACTIVE ROLE IN NEIGHBORHOOD/COMMUNITY BUILDING, CONNECTIVITY ENGAGEMENT, PARK AND TOWPATH WELCOME/INFORMATIONAL CENTER AND ADULT/ YOUTH HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL EDUCATION. CLPA WORKS ON PROJECTS THAT PROVIDE HISTORICAL EDUCATION AND THAT HELP TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE THE MUSTILL AND SCHUMACHER SITE. CLPA'S FOCUS IS TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT CONCENTRATE ON THE CANAL, EARLY AKRON INDUSTRY AND THE CONNECTION BETW

CLPA PROVIDES HISTORIC, CULTURAL, AND NATURE EDUCATION AT NO COST TO AREA SCHOOLS (PUBLIC, PRIVATE, AND HOME BASED) AND ADULT GROUPS. OUR CURRICULUM FOCUSES ON EARLY AKRON, THE OHIO & ERIE CANAL AND NATIVE FLORA AND FAUNA.


MAINTAINING THE MUSTILL PROPERTIES AND GROUNDS REQUIRES MANY HOURS OF LABOR AND A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE ORGANIZATION'S BUDGET. CLPA STEWARDS THE MUSTILL STORE, HOME & SURROUNDING GREEN SPACE, AREAS OF THE SCHUMACHER MILL SITE, AND CLPA'S PHYSICAL ARCHIVES,


PHYSICAL OPERATION OF THE MUSTILL STORE MUSEUM. CLPA EMPLOYS AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND OPERATIONS MANAGER, BOTH PART-TIME POSITIONS. IN ADDITION, THE STORE OPERATION REQUIRES THE HELP OF OVER 40 VOLUNTEERS. THE MUSEUM IS OPEN 3 DAYS A WEEK FROM APRIL THRU OCTOBER.
