THE R.R. SMITH CENTER FOUNDATION SUPPORTS, AUGMENTS AND ENHANCES THE R.R. SMITH CENTER FOR HISTORY AND ART (THE "SMITH CENTER") IN STAUNTON, VIRGINIA. THE SMITH CENTER HAS BEEN CREATED TO PROVIDE A HEADQUARTERS FOR THREE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WHICH ARE CENTRAL TO THE CULTURAL LIFE OF STAUNTON AND AUGUSTA COUNTY. THEY ARE THE AUGUSTA COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, THE HISTORIC STAUNTON FOUNDATION, AND THE STAUNTON AUGUSTA ART CENTER. THE GUIDING PHILOSOPHY BEHIND THE INTER-RELATIONSHIPS OF THE ORGANIZATIONS IN THE SMITH CENTER IS TO ENHANCE THE RESPECTIVE MISSIONS OF EACH OF THE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WHILE PRESERVING THE AUTONOMY OF EACH.
