THE MISSION OF CANINES WITH A CAUSE IS TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS AND PROCESSES TO EFFECTIVELY AND HOLISTICALLY TREAT COMBAT VETERANS WITH PTSD WITH WELL-TRAINED, SPECIALIZED SERVICE DOGS THAT PROVIDE EMOTIONAL THERAPY AS COMPANIONS. BY RESCUING DOGS FROM KILL SHELTERS AND USING PRISON INMATES AS A MEANS TO TRAIN, WE ESSENTIALLY SAVE THREE LIVES: THE VETERAN, THE DOG, AND THE INMATE.

Part 3 - Line 4a

2024 WAS AN IMPORTANT YEAR FOR CANINES WITH A CAUSE (CWAC). THE ORGANIZATION WAS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN A PROGRAM FUNDED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE (DOD) AND SPONSORED BY THE UNIFORMED SERVICES UNIVERSITY. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO DEVELOP, TEST, AND IMPLEMENT THE BEST PRACTICES AND METHODS TO PROCURE, TRAIN, AND PLACE SERVICE DOGS WITH MILITARY VETERANS DIAGNOSED WITH POST TRAUMATIC STRESS, MILITARY SEXUAL TRAUMA, AND TRAUMATIC BRAIN DISORDER. THE PROGRAM IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE FROM 2024 TO 2028 AND WILL SET A TEMPLATE FOR FUTURE DOD FUNDED SERVICE DOG PROGRAMS. CWAC PROGRAMS CONTINUE IN UTAH, NORTHERN NEVADA, AND NORTHERN IDAHO, TRAINING DOGS FOR PLACEMENT WITH MILITARY VETERANS REFERRED BY HEALTH PROVIDERS AS BENEFITTING FROM HAVING A SERVICE DOG. DOGS ARE ASSESSED AND PRE-TRAINED IN LOCAL STATE PRISONS. DOGS ARE PLACED FREE-OF- CHARGE FOR APPROVED VETERANS.
