TO PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES TO NEW MEXICO'S LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES; TO EDUCATE NEW MEXICO IMMIGRANT FAMILIES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON LEGAL ISSUES UNIQUE TO NON-CITIZENS; AND TO INCREASE SUPPORT FOR NEW MEXICAN IMMIGRANTS AND FIRST GENERATION STUDENTS WHO ASPIRE TO ENTER THE PUBLIC INTEREST LAW FIELD.

NMILC FOCUSED ON PROVIDING ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANTS THROUGH COLLABORATIVE LEGAL SERVICES. THIS PAST YEAR WE SERVED INDIVIDUALS FROM 26 COUNTIES (OUT OF A TOTAL OF 33) IN NEW MEXICO AND PROVIDED DIRECT REPRESENTATION, ADVICE, BRIEF SERVICES AND NAVIGATION, AND LEGAL INFORMATION AND REFERRAL TO 5,161 INDIVIDUALS. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, WE CREATED A REMOTE LEGAL SERVICE INFRASTRUCTURE TO PROVIDE BRIEF SERVICES SUPPORT TO INDIVIDUALS APPYING FOR CITIZENSHIP, GREEN CARD RENEWAL AND WORK PERMIT RENEWAL. WE ALSO DEVELOPED A REMOTE SERVICE INFRASTRUCTURE TO PROVIDE LEGAL ORIENTATION AND BRIEF SERVICES TO DETAINED IMMIGRANTS AND ASYLUM SEEKERS FACING REMOVAL. TO ACCOMPLISH THIS WORK, 45 PRO BONO ATTORNEYS AND DOJ ACCREDITED REPRESENTATIVES PROVIDED 1,358 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER LEGAL SERVICES AND 121 ADDITIONAL NON-ATTORNEY VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED PRO BONO MEDICAL ASSESSMENTS, COURT CERTIFIED INTEPRETATION SERVICES, AND PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT. WE ALSO EDUCATED AND TRAINED COMMUNITY MEMBERS ON IMMIGRATION LAW AND POLICY AND PROVIDED MENTORSHIP AND SUPERVISION TO PUBLIC INTEREST PRE-LAW AND POST-GRADUATE FELLOWS.
