Part 3 - Line 1

THE FOUNDATION ACCELERATES PURPOSE THROUGH ITS GRANT MAKING AND VOLUNTEERISM PROGRAMS CURATING INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE HANDS ON WITH PHILANTHROPIC CAUSES.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE FOUNDATION MADE A TOTAL OF TWELVE GRANTS IN 2021 THROUGH AN EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND THAT WAS CREATED IN APRIL 2020 IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 GLOBAL PANDEMIC. THE FUNDS WERE RAISED THROUGH VARIOUS VIRTUAL FUNDRAISING STRATEGIES (AS THE FOUNDATION WAS NOT ABLE TO HOST AN IN-PERSON GALA), AS WELL AS GENERAL DONATIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY. THROUGH AN INTERNAL VETTING PROCESS THAT REQUESTED A LETTER OF INTENT AND BUDGET FROM EACH QUALIFIED CHARITY, THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED TWELVE OF ITS CHARITY PARTNERS ON THE FRONTLINES OF THE PANDEMIC THAT PROVIDE CRITICAL, BASIC HUMAN SERVICES FOR FOSTER CHILDREN, DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS, CHILDREN WITH LIFE THREATENING MEDICAL ISSUES, FAMILIES IN LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES FACING JOB LOSS OR FOOD INSECURITY, AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEMS.

IN MARCH OF 2021, THE OPEN HEARTS FOUNDATION HOSTED A VIRTUAL VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE CALLED "CARDS FOR KIDS," WHERE 150 VOLUNTEERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD WERE MATCHED ONE TO ONE WITH 150 FOSTER CHILDREN OR FAMILIES IN THE SERVICE OF FOUR OF OUR CHARITY PARTNERS. A CREATIVITY KIT WAS SENT TO EACH VOLUNTEER AND THE FOUNDATION HOSTED A TWO-HOUR VIRTUAL VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE WHERE VOLUNTEERS LEARNED ABOUT THE SERVICES OF THE FOUR CHARITY PARTNERS. IN THE FALL AND WINTER MONTHS OF 2021, WHEN IT WAS SAFE TO HOST VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCES IN-PERSON, THE FOUNDATION HOSTED THREE VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCES IN COLLABORATION WITH CHARITY PARTNERS INCLUDING VOLUNTEER SUPPORT FOR CLARE'S PLACE FOUNDATION, THE VOLUNTEER CENTER SOUTH BAY HARBOR LONG BEACH AND AN ECO-RESTORATION TREE PLANTING PROJECT WITH SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL RECREATION AREA.
