A PUBLIC-BENEFIT, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION CHAMPIONING THE LITERARY, ARTISTIC, AND CULTURAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE LATE WRITER, ARTIST, AND INDIANAPOLIS NATIVE, KURT VONNEGUT.

THE KVML IS A PUBLIC-BENEFIT, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION CHAMPIONING THE LITERARY, ARTISTIC, AND CULTURAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE LATE WRITER, KURT VONNEGUT. WE CONDUCT SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING, AUTHOR TALKS, POETRY READINGS, A YOUTH WRITING CENTER, VETERANS PROGRAMMING, A READING ROOM, AND A LENDING LIBRARY. THE LIBRARY SERVES AS A CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE FACILITY, MUSEUM, AND ART GALLERY, PROVIDING AN ART GALLERY, MUSEUM, VENUE FOR FREE SPEECH DIALOGUE, AND A SHOP TO HIGHLIGHT THE LIFE OF KURT VONNEGUT THROUGH RESEARCH, ENTERTAINMENT, COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND DISCUSSION. DURING 2022, KVML CELEBRATED VONNEGUT'S 100TH BIRTHDAY AND SERVED 25,000 PEOPLE THROUGH OUR MUSEUM TOURS, FESTIVAL TABLES, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING, EVENTS AND YOUTH WRITING PROGRAM.


VONNEGUT FEST - VONNEGUT FEST IS AN ANNUAL FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTING VONNEGUT AND HIS INTERESTS RELATED TO ART, MUSIC, HUMOR, AND LITERATURE. THERE ARE SPEAKERS, PERFORMERS, AND SOME EVENTS ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC. VETERANS RECLAIM ARMISTICE DAY IS ONE PORTION OF THIS DAY. WE HIGHLIGHT CONTRIBUTIONS OF VETERANS. KVML EXPANDED ITS ONLINE PROGRAMMING TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF A GLOBAL IMPORTANT VOICES IN VETERANS ISSUES. 1,200 PEOPLE ATTENDED THIS PROGRAMMING IN 2022.


BY CREATING A "VIRTUAL MUSEUM" EXPERIENCE FEATURING VIDEOS WITH KVML PROGRAMS SUCH AS GRADUATION PARTIES WITH CELEBRITIES WHERE INDIVIDUAL GRADUATES NAMES WERE READ AND VONNEGUT'S GRADUATION SPEECHES WERE READ BY CELEBRITIES. KVML HOSTED ITS ANNUAL BANNED BOOKS WEEK AND HIGHLIGHTED VONNEGUT'S ENVIRONMENTALISM WITH A VARIETY OF IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL PROGRAMS. KVML ALSO CONTINUED ITS YOUTH WRITING PROGRAM IN INDIANAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGH IN PERSON AND VIRTUAL MENTORING SESSIONS WITH STUDENTS. THIS PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE INTO FUTURE YEARS AND IS EXPANDING TO OTHER INDIANAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS. IN 2022, KVML PIVOTED FROM VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING BECAUSE AUDIENCES WERE TIRING FROM SCREENS. WE OFFERED HYBRID FOR MANY PROGRAMS INCLUDING PORTIONS OF ONE GALA. WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 4,700 VIEWERS COMBINED FOR THIS PROGRANMIMG.
