IN THE PAST, OVER 1500 RUNNERS AND WALKERS, AGES 16 AND INTO THEIR 80'S, PARTICIPATED IN THE ANNUAL HALF MARATHONS. MORE THAN 200 HAVE PARTICIPATED IN A 13 WEEK TRAINING PROGRAM OFFERED TO PREPARE THEM FOR THE 13.1 MILE COURSE. PARTICIPANTS FROM 20 STATES AND SEVERAL FOREIGN COUNTRIES HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE RACE. SIGNAGE ALONG THE RACE COURSE HIGHLIGHTED CROPS GROWING THROUGHOUT THIS AGRICULTURAL VALLEY TEACHING PARTICIPANTS ABOUT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES THAT ARE GROWN IN THE SALINAS VALLEY AREA, KNOWN AS THE 'SALAD BOWL OF THE WORLD' DUE TO THE AREA'S STATUS AS ONE OF THE LARGEST SUPPLIERS OF PRODUCE.IN 2016, THERE WAS A FORMAL MERGER WITH SVHM AS THE DISAPPEARING CORPORATION. THE FULLY SIGNED MERGER AGREEMENT, FILED WITH THE CA SECRETARY OF STATE IS ATTACHED. SVHM WAS A 100% VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION. IT ELECTED TO MERGE INTO BSIM BECAUSE BSIM IS A HIGHLY EXPERIENCED OWNER & OPERATOR OF RESPECTED RUNNING EVENTS AND BECAUSE BSIM HAS THE RESOURCES TO PAY STAFF TO DO THE DAY IN AND DAY OUT WORK OF ORGANIZING THE RACES.
