SHENG-YEN LU FOUNDATION OPERATES TWO FUNDS TO ADDRESS EMERGING CHALLENGES FACED BY IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE COMMUNITIES. IN VIEW OF THE ONGOING PANDEMIC, EMERGENCY RESOURCES WERE DIRECTED TO SUPPORT COVID-19 RESPONSES, WHICH INCLUDED VACCINATION OUTREACH, EDUCATION, AND OTHER HEALTH ACCESS NEEDS. 25 GRANTS WERE MADE TO FRONTLINE ORGANIZATIONS SERVING COMMUNITIES DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC AND WORKING TO COMBAT ANTI-ASIAN HATE/BIAS. THE EMERGENT NEEDS FUND ALSO SUPPORTED ORGANIZATIONS WORKING ON PROVIDING BASIC NEEDS SUPPORT (INCLUDING FOOD, HOUSING, AND INCOME SECURITY), LEGAL DEFENSE, AND IMMIGRANT RIGHTS ADVOCACY. 11 GRANTS WERE MADE FROM THE RAPID RESPONSE FUND TO ADDRESS CRITICAL TIME-SENSITIVE NEEDS. RAPID RESPONSE FUND GRANTS WERE MADE FOR THINGS SUCH AS SUPPLIES FOR COVID-TESTING SITES, CLEANING/SAFETY SUPPLIES, MOBILE CLINICS, TELEHEALTH AND OTHER EMERGENCY NEEDS.


SHENG-YEN LU FOUNDATION MADE THE FOLLOWING 13 HEALTH CARE GRANTS IN 2021: 1) ASIAN COUNSELING AND REFERRAL SERVICE; 2) CHINESE INFORMATION & SERVICE CENTER; 3) HEALTHPOINT COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER; 4) INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES; 5) INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE; 6) KIN ON COMMUNITY HEALTH; 7) NEIGHBORCARE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER; 8) NORTHWEST HEALTH LAW ADVOCATES; 9) OPEN ARMS PERINATAL SERVICES; 10) PROJECT ACCESS NORTHWEST; 11) REFUGEES NORTHWEST/LUTHERAN COMMUNITY SERVICES NORTHWEST; 12) SOMALI HEALTH BOARD; AND 13) WASHINGTON ACADEMCY FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATES. ALL GRANT RECIPIENTS WORK TO REDUCE HEALTH DISPARITIES WITH ADVOCACY AND/OR BY REACHING OUT TO UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS OFFERING MEDICAL, MENTAL AND/OR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, AND DENTAL CARE TO MANY WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE WITHOUT. NO PATIENTS ARE TURNED AWAY FOR INABILITY TO PAY.


SHENG-YEN LU FOUNDATION MADE 11 EDUCATION GRANTS IN 2021 TO SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING: 1) COLLEGE POSSIBLE'S COLLEGE PERSISTENCE PROGRAM ENSURING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AND COLLEGE SUCCESS; 2) DENISE LOUIE EDUCATION CENTER'S EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN FROM IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE FAMILIES; 3) EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY SERVICES' K-12 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM; 4) EL CENTRO DE LA RAZA'S WIDE RANGING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES SUPPORTING IMMIGRANT & REFUGEE YOUTH; 5) HIGHLINE COLLEGE'S WELCOME BACK CENTER ASSISTING INTERNATIONALLY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS TO MAXIMIZE CAREER POTENTIAL IN THE U.S.; 6) KANDELIA'S ACADEMIC PROGRAMS, WHICH PROVIDE AFTER SCHOOL, SATURDAY, AND SUMMER PROGRAMS TO OVER 200 LOW-INCOME IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE STUDENTS; 7) ONEAMERICA'S EFFORTS TO BUILD EARLY LEARNING ADVOCACY IN IMMIGRANT & REFUGEE COMMUNITIES; 8) PARA LOS NINOS WORK TO BUILD EARLY LEARNING EMPOWERMENT IN LATINO IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES; 9) REFUGEE WOMEN'S ALLIANCE'S POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION SUCCESS PROGRAM; 10) WEST AFRICAN COMMUNITY COUNCIL'S MULTICULTURAL EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM; AND 11) WORLD RELIEF SEATTLE'S NEXTGEN PROGRAM FOR REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT YOUTH.
